Considering the "entire party" is the main four members, I really don't see anyone dying at all. If anyone does die, it will be at the very end of the game where there's no going back because the game is over.

Deep inside we all know Cor is gonna die.
He might actually be the one character that survives unscathed. He may want to die, but he's 42 (traditional unlucky age in Japan), and not being able to follow those he protects to the grave with them may be part of his misfortune. That would be great from a narrative standpoint.

I really loved this video. It's a shame it's getting mostly getting comments from people over at NeoGaf. I don't get what the problem is honestly. All I keep seeing is negativity from people over the past couple of months.
It's the internet. I don't get it either. Being a pessimist or an optimist is a choice. I grew up a pessimist. Then I decided to be happy. Now I'm the happiest dude I know. I don't get the appeal, but Negative Nancies definitely seem to be more free to be their usual pill selves without repercussion. That and misery loves company.

For FFXV, though, it's probably mostly skepticism due to the FFXIII trilogy. Others upset because they don't really understand what they're seeing and they're comparing it to the wrong genres. Or, simply lack the imagination required to fill in the blanks, so they've assumed that's all we'll get at every step of the way. Also, important to note that a lot of louder, more ignorant voices out there are the same ones going from site to site repeating the same bullshit, too.

Nothing you can do. Just ignore them and stick with the truth. They don't want to do anything but to be miserable. You're not going to open anyone's eyes.

I like how the Behemoth freezes only partially from blizzard magic.

It's weird that the video has "high level combat" in the title but the combat looks exactly like in the Platinum demo. I'm assuming it's just a mistake on IGN's part.

What would GAF be if they didn't complain about everything?

Pretty decent showing in that footage despite a lot of missing elements. Shocked at the backlash against the video in some circles, really, the combat is look fantastic and the magic has such tremendous OOMPH!

I really think they should bring back hitstops. Before in Duscae they were exaggerated, but now it's missing completely. It would add a feeling of impact when you strike the enemy. I think it would make a tremendous difference.

This game is going to look amazing on a decent PC some day.

Edit: Not dogging the PS4 version, either, I'm just saying that the PC version will look spectacular. Or the PS4k patched version.

You mean enemies staggering? I think you can see that happening when Noctis hits the samurai-like monsters with the giant broadsword.
No, that's different. I mean in Duscae they had a stutter to the action whenever an attack was made. In Duscae it was probably too much, but it did give a feeling of impact. We saw it removed entirely in the Niflheim Base footage.

Yeah, that's true. But if you look, the attack enemies in the new footage seem to be trying to launch big attacks, but Noctis' furious assault is continuously knocking them back and delaying it. It sounds like an exciting risk-reward system: judging the enemy's health, taking the plunge and going in fast during an enemy's vulnerable period pre-attack - a strategy that could go horribly wrong if timed wrong.

Personally, the new look seems more realistic. If you think about it, those kinds of fights in real-life would probably have knocks being anything from inconsequential to giant-felling depending on the power and placement. It invites strategic thinking more than just barreling away (wish they could have fitted that into LR, that would have made the battle system close to perfect).

On one hand, I feel almost word-for-word the same way as you do on it. Noctis attacks so quickly and it's a signature style of his compared to the enemies he's facing. On the other hand, I wonder if during these quick attacks if it will feel right in a game-y sense. Especially for enemies that cannot get staggered or do not stagger very easily, like the Behemoth or Iron Giant.

It's probably not gonna bother me at all for enemies like the Magitek Armor, but there was one point in the new footage where Noctis was attacking the Behemoth and it just looked off, that's all.

This is open to interpretation, but it sounds like IGN is releasing a 45ish minute video of gameplay in the next few days.

(Video is just the podcast where they mention the video, not the video itself. There are no spoilers there that I am aware of. It's at 47:48 (it was supposed to bring you there automatically but I think it got broken in the automatic embedding))
