I am bump-quoting this execellent reply from Koozek in light of an interesting post I found over on GamFAQ's (yes I know most posts there are absolute trash), but this post I found was quite intriguing.

It shows the English translation of Omnis Lacrima-something I don't think we have discussed here yet-but could link right in with glimpses of things we have seen in trailers before and after the game became XV- and kind of help support the idea that this game is not (massively) different from Versus.

Here are the lyrics and I have spoiler-tagged the posters speculation in case people don't want that. It is quite interesting though, especially the part which could indicate that there is a direct reference to this song in The Dawn trailer.

"our master has succumbed to endless sleep"
maybe it gets worse for him, could be related to plague of stars, longer nights, destiny

"with him sleep power, sleep our beloved sky, begging for forgiveness"
maybe it makes him stronger? we dont know all of his abilities, from stars, crystal, family, magic? but things in their world get worse as night gets longer

"can we once again see the dawn"
is there any chance for the plague to stop, or not happen. are they lost and hopeless. no chance of getting through the night

"defeated our master sleeps and calls his children through his dreams"
insomnia does fall, his world crumbling around him, as it says on the main website story synopsis. i wonder if the children bit relates to the 3 entities from the dawn trailer, or the summons? what if when he sleeps, thats when he really controls the summons? or the power of the stars,. i have a feeling that while he sleeps, things happen, directly or indirectly because of him. this is a stretch . maybe as he sleeps he has visions of the summons calling to him needing his help or to be used. or he awakens them, the summons may be a sort of last resort for him after his defeat with insomnia and his father and luna supposedly falling, i can see an epic battle with him having rounded up all of the summons together and unleashing h***

"behold the day of glory, at last awakened by the whispers of dawn"
alluding to something noct has to do eventually, will be glorious/legendary?

"know that we will fight, we are protected by our goddess"
either the goddess on the logo or someone else, obviously a source of power/nocts family abilities/ or his childhood destiny/ related to their family and kingdom in some way not small. maybe religious, maybe crystal involved . they will always stand up and fight against enemies

"behold the day of glory awakened, the coming danger divides us all"
maybe even if noct beats the enemy, and realizes his goal and accomplishes it, he is in a worse place himself, maybe evil, maybe he does something nuts after., maybe it relates to the hidden real bad guy? (hooded man) all of this connected to his destiny, childhood, lineage, family. tangled up, we will see how

"for our master to find his piece, all is stained in blood"
post niflheim conflict? again what i was just referring to, he is in a worse spot later on, maybe he went too far, or something backfired, or he turned evil and epiclly destroyed and became even more badass. or he loses people close to him or something he holds dear, maybe he loses a lot on the way and at the end

"rest in piece, rest in piece"

o_O :| we shall see, i think it refers to the h*** he will unleash. the return 100x worse than what they did

Finally, most interesting of all, I think is this response to the post, which if this is accurate, it is potentially a very major lore spoiler as it might reveal exactly who the three figures in the Dawn trailer are and why Tabata said they are very inportant.

The first spoiler is the name of one of the entities; the second is the description of and probable relationship to the other two entities, which is basically an expansion on the info Koozek already mentioned.

Selene
In Greek mythology, Selene is the goddess of the moon. She is the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, and sister of the sun-god Helios, and Eos, goddess of the dawn. She drives her moon chariot across the heavens. Several lovers are attributed to her in various myths, including Zeus, Pan, and the mortal Endymion. In classical times, Selene was often identified with Artemis, much as her brother, Helios, was identified with Apollo. Both Selene and Artemis were also associated with Hecate, and all three were regarded as lunar goddesses, although only Selene was regarded as the personification of the moon itself. Her Roman equivalent is Luna.

Eos: In Greek mythology, Eos is a Titaness and the goddess of the dawn, who rose each morning from her home at the edge of the Oceanus.
Eos had a brother and a sister, Helios, god of the sun, and Selene, goddess of the moon.

There are three distinct deities seen in the Dawn trailer like you've pointed out.

Here is my takeaway and the implication from all this: The XV world is basically still the same as the Versus world because remember, Omnis Lacrima was created for Final Fantasy Versus XIII! Therfore a lot, or maybe even most of XV's lore was probably Versus lore as well! This would then validate Tabata-sans assertion from last year that the script and world of FFXV is indeed still based on Nojima's original outline for Versus.



What do you guys think?
Thumbs up for coming up with all the writing, how accuarate it actually is, is debatable.

Thanks, I see that now. I wish I had checked the youtube comments before I just posted all that. Still, it does sound somewhat debatable as to whether that really was a mistranslation, since after more sifting of the youtube comments I found this:

"Church Latin is similar to, but not exactly, proper Latin. Proper Latin was spoken by the Roman Empire, and cannot support new words or ideas due to the morphology of the language itself. Church Latin on the other hand is a modified form of Latin used by Roman Catholic clergy that still expands as the Church needs it to. I suspect that Tetsuya Nomura is using Proper Latin, and intentionally going for the double entendre between prayer to a diety, and mourning a passed monarch."

It does seem to me that this may be going on seeing as how Lord have mercy (on our souls) and rest in peace are (sort of) related. Also the fact that that line is Greek is interesting.

New official blog update and interview up (waiting for official SE English translation). This time Taji interviews 2D artist Kaoru Kawaguchi, who's in charge of unnamed NPCs.

Edit 3/4/2016: Square Enix have posted the official translation of this interview, so this translation can be retired.

- 10 people comprise of XV's art group. They create drawings (cities, residents, cars, miscellaneous items, etc.) that then get translated into CG.
- Within the dev team, people separate NPCs into 2 categories: NNPCs (named NPCs) and UNPCs (unnamed). Kawaguchi's in charge of the latter.
- NNPCs are related to the story in some way. (Kawaguchi used an example and said something about a bar owner "Taji" being a NNPC, but don't take my word on whether a bar owner will be a significant character in XV lol)
- XV's art is done and in good shape for the most part, but she still handles sudden requests from time to time. She wasn't expecting an interview at all (lol)
- Everything is given thought, from the clothing, to the cities they live in, their lifestyles, etc. Down to the pockets and textures that go in their clothing design. lol
- Kawaguchi went around asking people in suits to show her the pockets in their behind areas XD
Kawaguchi's pen tablet broke in the middle of the interview, apparently. She says it often happens, perhaps because she's nervous.

Well, the problem is that the choir aren't singing "Kyrie eleison" (the first syllable sounds more like "in"). Also, even if the song had been translated into Proper Latin, the choir are still using Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation (evident by the pronunciation of "g" as soft and "sc" as "sh" not "sk," as in "expergiscendi," which I can vouch is one of the words in the song; and "c" as "ch," not "k"). However, I may be incorrect in my reasoning because I don't know Latin, so I don't know if you can't actually pronounce proper Latin in Ecclesiastical, lol.

Digest version 2.0:
Q: Tell us about difficulties and interesting points you encounter in UNPC design.
A: Difficult points: the shape of clothing that can be rendered in circumstances of motion, etc. There's a length limit in place, so the extent to which differences can be shown within that certain range had troubled Kawaguchi.
Also, in comparison to men (their clothing is much simpler), she had trouble accentuating differences in women's silhouettes. She can't give women pointy clothes all of a sudden (lol).
Interesting point: witnessing the UNPCs come to life when the models have been created and are running in the game. Seeing them pouring tea or selling things at their shops make her happy.

By the way, the fighting couple at Chocobo Wiz Post also fall under the category of UNPC.

Q: How many UNPC models and varieties are there?
A: Kawaguchi can't give an answer about the number of models, but she talks briefly about varieties. In Altissia alone, there are more than 100 varieties of UNPCs (men and women, young and old), and when you add them all up, the scope of the houses, shops, etc. that line the streets in XV becomes something that surpasses all previous FFs.

Q: Could you show us some pictures and materials?

A: Kawaguchi showed some clothing samples used for UNPCs. On the back of each sample is their type written down. On the left side of the image, samples include: denim, wool, silk, checkered gingham, etc. On the right side, you can see the UNPC design files, and one of the images on the top left of that album is this old Lestallum man.

And some final words from Kawaguchi (paraphrase): There's a lot of art related to game promotion that can't be shown, and the number of that type of art has increased, but the staff are working hard to finish the game, so please look forward to it, everyone!

You're doing God's work, Rin, thanks! I've always been very interested in NPCs and cities. They're one of the main reasons why I love VIII and IX so much. I love hearing that number in Altissia, hopefully there's not much repetition or it isn't too jarring. Can't wait to see footage of Altissia gameplay, goddamn.

Curious as to what the Friday (weird it isn't this Thursday) thing is. I enjoy these little interviews, but they're so (understandably) vague that I woulnd't mind something else, like a mini-tour through the XV offices.

PS: nice Quixote quote btw.

SE had announced that updates would be provided on Tuesdays and Fridays, Japan time. Part of the vagueness of these interviews has to do with my shoddy translations. lol

My guess is that, as our comrade Taji levels up, he'll get to talk with "higher level" people. Maybe even top brass like Ferrari? One can dream!

PS: Thanks! I read this quotation in a book a few weeks ago (haven't actually read Don Quixote), and these words have stuck with me since then.

On an unrelated note, Yusuke Naora, XV's art director, tweeted a message to fans on the FFXVJP account in regard to the unexpected amount of artwork received.

"This is art director Naora. In such a short period... this is truly unexpected! I feel pressured by the diversity of everyone's ideas and got goosebumps. We on the team will carefully look through them. Also, my best wishes to those attending the fan meeting!"

Official blog update for March 4, 2016:

First, the blog's article details page has been updated. (I hadn't read the page before, so I don't know how the contents have changed.)

Second, SE give a reminder about the fan meeting in Japan (to take place on March 12, 2016). Taji, Mittsu, and other development staff working with community management will also attend the fan meeting.

As for next week's updates, Taji will take a break from his regular posts, but SE are preparing a kind of special project and want us to look forward to the next update on March 15 (Tuesday).

He comments on his desires for XV's impact as well as how he wants us (the audience) to respond to the game's ending. NC has quoted the important parts of the interview, but XV fans might want to pick up a copy of GI for themselves if they can!
