They say the game is coming in 2016, yet they push forward with stuff that clearly doesn't reflect the final product. Are they just doing whatever it takes to raise awareness for the game as of now?
While not representative 100% of the final product is a "close" aproximation (1 character, summons, levelingup system, action combat, what actions do each button, etc) but what's the definition of "reflect final product" ?

Because one could say (for ex) that a trailer/demo does not reflect the final product unless it shows everything the final product will have (every gameplay mechanique, every zone of the map, spoiler and plot twist included).
FFXV demo aside, another example i can think of is the SFV beta testing that Capcom was recently doing, does it "reflect the final product" will only have 4 characters ? Or does the MGSVTPP marketing reflect that the final game will only have 2 maps (AF jungle, Afganistan, which may or may not be true) ?

Disclaimer: before you say, yes SE is not doing a perfect job with the marketing.

Well Tabata has also said we might get the announcement on when they will announce the release date at PAX. At least that is something too look forward too. I am hoping that we get more of the English Voice Actors since the localization specialist is going to be at PAX.
i can't wait for when they reveal who the english voice actors are for final fantasy xv and interview them :)

What's wrong with FFXIII's marketing?
That was...interesting...
Haha, yeah. Had a post about that, too, on GAF. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=144971065&postcount=94

Troy Baker:

Tabata's PR guy:
Also the terrible decision to market FFXIII to sports fans, see: http://kotaku.com/5469087/final-fantasy-xiii-gets-title-sponsorship-of-nba-all-star-event

Then the horribly edited TV ads, where you can't make anything out visually with all these crazy fast cuts of convoluted battle- and CGI-footage in tiny screens and that hilariously out of place music:

It's all so schizophrenic and clueless.

lolwhat. That's so terrible.

Nothing tops the FF XIII announcement trailer, though. Pure gold.

I forgot to write another speculation.
As you know, you can use magic by a special ring, so I thought these rings were created by "the energy of those meteorites" (that was also confirmed) like the one in the Duscae region.
So it could be like in FF VII with the Materia, which was created by the Mako energy. Well it is/was Nomuras new game, so he implemented some known features in the past FF titles like VI - VIII.
Thinking about that makes my hype even more rising. :D

I was wondering about the connection with Astral Shards and Crystals.

Not sure people know how marketing works, while it was awkward, strange, and off putting for us Final Fantasy fans. If it can gather a conversation and gain interest, thats the point.

As many higher ups say, there is no such thing as bad publicity. When you open the big picture.

If you look back at APZ's topic on the google trends & interest http://www.mognetcentral.com/threads/google-trends-interest-in-ff.4331/. You can clearly see that FF13 did gather more interest than FF15, and thanks for this reminder I now see why. Not to mention the fastest selling FF, a meta score 83 and 7.5 userscore rating. No matter how much you dislike the game, in the world of business it's not a legit complaint, as it sold well and had favorable feedback.

Hype alone is worthless if you can't utilize it to build upon it for the future. What if you brought all these newcomers to the series, yeah, but with the arguably worst-received FF, going by user reception, and now turn them off from the whole series because of their first bad taste. I don't think most will return for future FFs again after they were burned once. Now of course you always lose a certain percentage of people after every hyped game, for example FFVII was rumored to be the "most returned game ever" after millions of people only saw the epic action-packed trailers and didn't know it actually was a menu-driven RPG.

If SE had done effective marketing with a FF that also lived up to the hype they would have won a lot of new players who'd more likely stay for the next generations of the series, too. Even if FFXV will be well-received a lot of those who bought into FFXIII's hype and were disappointed are now lost as potential audience. Unless they can somehow manage to create a mega hype next year before release that can even convince those of giving FF another chance again. Let's hope they can get a lot of new fans on board for the franchise's future's sake!
