Oh, regarding the whole cutscene topic, i'll leave this here from the Versus 2011 days:

Much of the discussion was about the game's event scenes. As with most games, there are two types of event scenes in Versus: pre-rendered and real time. The difference about the Versus real time scenes is that they're all controllable. They decided to get rid of the non controllable real time cut scenes in order to keep the play from stopping.

Regarding the controllable cut scenes, Nomura said to expect more natural expression as opposed to the game-like expression of past games. He also mentioned some sort of new system for this area, something that he feels has never been done before.

Also, how do you guys feel with the previwers' impressions in regards to side quests?

Honestly, for me i feel The Witcher 3 really spoiled everyone this generation in terms of side quest content alone.

i'm fine, there are fetch quests? yes, but there are sidequests that unlocks chocobos and the flying car.

these kind of sidequest are worth 10 good ones.

from my understanding, there are two types of cutscenes + playable events with banter, ex: the group pushing the car.

the Dawn trailer cutscene is pre-rendered while scenes like Cidney's introduction or Ardyn meeting with Noctis in Galdin Quay are "regular", you can see the difference by the graphics.

i think we saw a good amount of "regular" scenes to be honest, and then CGs but given the fact they made an entire movie like that i'm only expecting the opening and ending to be CG.
Also, from what I've seen, there are also some cutscenes that are realtime, but the aren't "cutscenes" per se, they're just conversations. What bothers me about them is their quality: It sucks. The animations are terrible, and the lip syncing is almost non-existent. I hope there aren't a lot of them.

I've not read any previews(just the bits and pieces people quoted from previews on this forum) but I'm aware that there are more fetch quests and your generic tasks quests. I'm also told that there are a few meaningful ones but they are not in abundance.

I don't mind the generic fetch quest stuff as long as I get a good reward at the end.

Yes, ive been very spoilt by TW3 espcially in regards to sidequests. I don't expect the game to live up to TW3 I'm that department but at least strive to have some nice world building, characters developing sidequests woven into the overall story to add some enhanced flavour, depth and different perspectives.
If XV is really a challenger and want to have other games running in fear is should focus on doing this.

I'm optimistic due to what one of the previewers said about the party banter -- even if the side quests themselves aren't super compelling, the game has other ways of ensuring that I'll get a bit of extra characterization or worldbuilding while tracking down marks.

To be fair, those sorts of conversations basically replace the even more distracting flat-face (and sometimes unvoiced) cutscenes from the PS2 era. >_>;

In terms of the whole boring side quests, I don't really mind it too much. I mean, considering that the party is always talking I feel as if that even if the sidequests themselves are no more than fetch quests, the things they talk about during the sidequests will be the meaningful parts. Also 85% of all games I play are F2P MMOs so I'm immune to boring sidequests.

I haven't played TW3 though, so I don't understand the constant praise it gets in terms of its sidequests. Were they more than just fetch quests and hunts? or was it that the characters you meet/deal with were the interesting parts of the sidequests?

A very healthy amount of the sidequests in the witcher had very interesting outcomes depending on how you tackled them. You learn a lot about the npcs as you take on the quests. Sometimes the sidequest goes in a direction you didn't expect, initially thinking it's a simple fetch quest. Some tie into other quests and some even effect the main quest to an extent. They are structure and paced perfectly.

But of course you did have your generic sidequest here and there.

Some were so well done that I they felt like part of the main quest.

Exactly.

I loved TW3, and this is coming from someone who has tried his whole gaming life to like WRPGs but always hated them. Probably my GOT(Y/G) for now (until FFXV hopefully). I don't expect FFXV to come close to TW3's quests and writing, but it will definitely excel in other parts.

The setting and world are already destroying the Witcher 3 IMHO. I found the world in TW3 to be beautiful, but its not nearly as varied or provides that sense of scale that FFXV is providing. And honestly, while the narrative and story are fucking fantastic and believable in TW3, I didn't REALLY care about the characters, it didn't feel that intimate. Sure I love Geralt, but just from watching gameplay and a few cutscenes (along with the OMEN trailer), I've fallen in love with the 4 protagonists. They honestly feel like a family or a brotherhood, and have so much fun interaction with each other. I haven't felt this curious or excited to see how a game ends in a long time. I'm actually nervous and while I want it to be heartbreaking and beautiful, I don't want it to be tragic and make me depressed for a week (like Shadow of the Colossus did, god what a game) THAT is what I feel FFXV already does better. Oh and the combat....every Witcher game doesn't have the best combat honestly.

And this coming from someone who loves WRPG's and JRPG's equally and considers Witcher 3 my GOTY for two years in a row (because the complete edition is my shit). I'm hoping FFXV knocks that out of place!

Looking back at the the NG+ rumor from Gamefaqs...

rumor

dont click if you don't want to be spoiled about new game + features

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691087-playstation-4/74500554?page=0

totally possible since tabata did exactly this with type-0.
...i'm beginning to grow skeptical of the validity from the TC, the fact that he hasn't posted at least an image of the guide he claimed to have had the info from, post-poned from posting further for hours until coming back to close his topic, as well as a fact that the guide itself hasn't released yet isn't supporting his case.

I don't play JRPGs for side quests. I play them for the main scenario. There's always that balancing act between side quests and the main story in RPGs, and many WRPGs sacrifice the fidelity of their main scenarios in favor of more interesting side quests. A good recent example of this in the JRPG sphere can be found with the Xenoblade games. Xenoblade Chronicles had a fucking legendary main story (but terrible side quests) and it was largely facilitated by the way you progress through the world as whole - in a linear fashion. Xenoblade Chronicles hit the perfect formula for introducing open world elements in a JRPG and yet maintaining the linear world progression that brings about the sense and feeling of an epic journey but still maintaining wide open areas to explore along the way. With Xenoblade Chronicles X, they went with the more WRPG route by using a more open-ended open world design and with better and more abundant side quests and activities but the main story was extremely lackluster and suffered as a result.

The more I see of XV the more I'm convinced that they've taken some amount of inspiration from the original Xenoblade Chronicles - where you progress through the world as a whole in a linear fashion but you have a metric shit ton of places to explore along the way. As for the side quests, I'm expecting them to be better than those found in something like Xenoblade Chronicles but of course not on the level of TW3. If they chose to proportion more development to the main narrative, characters, the combat system, and the world exploration rather than to producing a large number of memorable side quests, then I am more than fine with that opportunity cost.

Found a short cutscene with Gentiana and an interesting speculation regarding Titan.

Found a translation for what Gentiana says with all credit and thanks going to fotmhero.

Here's what Gentiana says:

"King of the sacred stone, listen to me. The king must find the Fulgurian to seek his favor... it is needed to take the stone back. Lunafreya..."

the Fulgurian = Ramuh btw. She probably leads us to him.

Also when Titan meets Noctis for the first time, is it just me, or does he appear to be saying "Son of Odin", albeit very slowly and distorted ?

Here's the video:

Gentiana cutscene is at 7:30 and you can hear Titan (probably) saying it at 21:56.

I'm still massively salty to this day towards XCX.

Like, coming off from XC/2013 unveil to.....that....offends me.

Really glad S.E./FFXV are avoiding taking a similar route.

Shit, I was just perusing GFaqs (yes I like to expose myself to cancer) and saw a comment say "If there a way to make your party back off so you can 1v1 enemies"....Now I want that so bad. I know that's the exact opposite of what the game is trying to show/tell (and we know how well it goes for Noctis if we go it alone) but I would love for it to be like a NG+ thing, where we can just roam around, challenge bosses and hunts using only Noctis. It would be a pretty interesting way to play considering how vital our bros seem to be. (I also don't mean to just remove them outright in a NG+ mode, more like, have them just sit in the Regalia so we still travel around with them but Noctis is the only one actually fighting)

I've listened, and I don't think Titan's saying "Son of Odin". He's saying "Son of Man". With the extra bit, it's almost like he's saying "Son of Man, hold on" or "hold it". Then again, we mustn't forget that the Astrals are supposed to speak in a tongue uninteligable to humans, so it could just be random phrases distorted to sound like otherwordly speech.

Oh, interesting thought. If the rumours about New Game+ are true, maybe one of the little extras is translating the Astrals' words for the player.
