i need to agree that the combat looked boring in the polygon video, which is funny since i found others videos in the same area much more enjoyable to watch and i'll explain why.
the combat being boring or dynamic it's totally up to the player, i'm stealing this words from a preview I read, but it's so much true the more I watch different ppl playing; in he polygon video the player didn't even bother to change weapons, or craft magic; he literally spammed the same sword attack and barely used party techniques.
in the case of aranea boss battle, if you don't pay attention and try to warp strike to her while she's doing her jump move, you would probably miss the amazing aerial fight that battle can give;
either way i'm totally curious to see what a skilled player can do in the late game.
Completely agree with this.
I played the game at the EB Games Expo last Saturday and I can confirm that how well the combat looks and feels is dependent upon the skill set of the player. From what I've seen, the people who complain about the gameplay being boring are the ones who don't switch weapons, dodge, or do any fancy manoeuvres to spice things up and make it more lively.
You can do standard attacks just by pressing the O button and moving the L stick with the directional stick to create variation in moveset. Jumping and attacking adds more to your arsenal.. and that's just one weapon!
Same can be said for the camera too. Although I played an older build, I tried experimenting with the camera while fighting, especially during the part where Noctis and crew are ambushed by Sabertusks in the shed at the beginning of the game.
Manoeuvre the camera away from corners and edges + strategically position Noctis so he doesn't get cornered = there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Boils down to player skill if you ask me.
