Oh, I totally forgot that quote, well if the old speculated Hamlet connection still exists, maybe Odin makes sense, in so much that that setting was Denmark, lol. Tabata has said in the past XV is based on Norse and Japanese mythology...weve never seen odin with a skull face and wings though...and even given Tabata's quote it seems a bit extreme, and also a skull, wings and a tail basically is what diabolos looks like! One way or another, we might get clarification soon- E3!!
I must correct a couple of things. First, in the bullet point article in question, he did not specify anything beyond "Western" mythologies, which could as easily take in Classical and Celtic, and at a stretched European Judeo-Christian traditions. Secondly, the Shakespeare quote was confirmed by developers from the very beginning to be a mood setter rather than anything related to the plot.

But what about all those Hamlet theories? lol... I knew from day one this shit, it was so annoying seeing everyone constantly thinking that the story was just a Hamlet clone, for fuck's sakes people, you think SE is that out of idea they have to copy original works?

Not at all, of course they arent out of ideas, but someone on the team DID say Norse, not just "western" I remember that distinctly.

hmm, yeah that might have been it, sorry if I am mixing that up. Interesting that he said that they are including ALL the old roen designs, so that would include Noctis's old suit then.
Yeah, I was surprised too. I've generally been surprised about how much of the original Versus XIII concepts they've retained and repurposed. I really expected them to have junked much of the concept by this point, really and truly starting from scratch. But then, I was also expecting them to eventually cancel Versus XIII. All I ask, Square Enix, is please let the Archean battles/encounters have a little more finesse than Santa Monica's God of War set pieces. PLEASE.....

How do you mean? I thought the way Leviathan was depicted in 2013 and the footage of Titan we have seen are amazing!
Well.... I find God of War's massive set pieces too bombastic for my tastes. And there were too many of them, so they got old rather quickly: personally, I can only see so many building-sized bosses before I start rolling my eyes, with a few exceptions (Bayonetta, which handles it with a nice light touch). But that's only my opinion, and it's a whole different franchise to Final Fantasy. I have reasonable faith that they can move and dazzle me. They usually succeed.

Giant battles are tricky as fuck, only a few developers have managed to actually make them fun and original (the king is still Shadow of the Colossus). More than the bombastic nature of it, I think that the GoW get old fast because of the repetitiveness of the enemy's attacks and the limitations to your own movement.

Given how big some enemies are (the Behemoth is not even that big compared to others we've already seen) and how focused Noctis' combat style is in regards to air combat, I hope it is fun and engaging and not frustrating: the ingredients are there.

Also, totally unrelated to any ongoing discussion, but man, do I want to see alternative outfits already (and know whether we can play without the jacket or not!). I'm guessing they're announcing them rather late in the marketing plan: hopefully, a chunk of them are free and there's variety in number and style. And if only we could shorten Noctis' back haircut a little bit, I'd be the happiest.

I know I've said this a loooot, but I'd love for Noctis' placeholder cloak to be there, just for the sake of nostalgia. But, again, I don't know how their contract with Roen is. I kinda wish it didn't exist tbh, as I preferred the old main costumes (current Noctis would be great with a shorter jacket and longer trousers; the rest, except for maybe Ignis who is largely the same, were better before). The formal suits are stellar, though and so are the other outfits shown, whether modern or fantasy-oriented.

I find the design changes of this game to be fascinating; hopefully the Ultimania has some insight in the Versus days (whether pre or post-Roen), although I doubt it's going to be much and it's mostly going to focus on the Tabata era.

That old outfit of Noctis from the pre-2011 days was a placeholder designed by Nomura rather than Roen. They can probably include it at their leisure, regardless of any contract. So there's hope there. It may be in there as an Easter egg or something.

Oh, and I quite agree, Shadow of the Colossus is the reigning monarch of epic battles. Nothing else comes close. I think it's the only time I've ever felt emotional about a boss battle with a monster. By the end, it was just breaking my heart.

Oh, I knew about Nomura, what I meant is that, for all we know, they could have a clause in which the (main) characters can only wear Roen outfits. I kinda doubt it and even then it could be worked out, so yeah, let's see!

And indeed, SotC is the GOAT. I seriously can't think of any other game with that level of emotion told in such a suble and little way, the longer you killed them, the sadder and more tired you felt. In terms of combat, I actually can't remember whether the climbing enemies mechanic is still in; if it's still in, it'll probably be like many games that have been inspired by SotC: you grab onto an enemy part and keep hitting the fuck out of it until you have to let go. I can't wait to see the Adamantoise in action.

As to the summon battles, given how Tabata's describing Noctis' relationship with them, those are probably going to be more in the nature of a climbing puzzle than an outright boss battle. The Archeans will probably be setting seemingly insurmountable environmental tests to see whether Noctis is truly worthy of their aid.

Oh man, now that you say it, I hope we get some puzzle or tests other than normal battles when it comes to Noctis proving his worth to the summons. It's been a while (like ten fucking years) since I last played X, but I remember liking SOME of the puzzles (I remember others being annoying). I kinda doubt it though.

I wonder whether XV is showing up in MS or in Sony. I'm guessing Sony (and the ATR is a bit after that), but who knows, they had some panels this E3 showing only "Xbox One", so maybe MS got this. This is the last E3 XV is going to be in and, arguably, the biggest show they have before lunch (even bigger, in terms of potential audience, than Uncovered). Hopefully they know that (it seems like a trailer and a playable demo there are confirmed, so I'm guessing they do).

After the huuuuuge dissapointment of not getting shit regarding Mass Effect (seriously, what the hell), this is my most hyped (confirmed) E3 game.

EDIT: man, that was a pretty shit demo. I don't know if it's not the right one to show in a conference, if the player wasn't very good/was nervous or both, but that was dissapointing.

Pretty impressive visual-wise, though.

Well, it didn't help that the guy playing seemed to be pretty terrible at it. It almost seems like he just defended/got hit most of the time just to drag out the stage demo for a certain length of time.

It was more of a case of bad performance by the tester. And this is a demo, not the full thing. Let's not start throwing venom at the Archean fights yet.

I was half expecting the gigantic fights to be a little rough around the edges, but at least they don't seem to be (at least right off the bat) just a massive QTE-fest like you find in other games like God of War, which is a positive for me.

I didn't see it until after I saw a ton of people complaining about it, so I was expecting worse. I'm a little bit disappointed that you're still basically attacking Titan's feet. Ok, it's his arm instead of his feet, but you're still on the ground. I thought you'd be able to warp up to his face.
