No... It really doesn't up the chances. It really doesn't do anything at all.

Don't do this to yourself.
I am honestly fine either way to be perfectly honest. I feel it is good to be hyped, even if you do end up being a bit dissipointed oh well. In the end it is just a game. Alot of people on here alone will only play it once and be done with it.

That a shame. I try to at least play RPGs I have again month or a year later. But to never play it again and just have it sit in a drawer and rot. Sad. But that happens with longer game, which most RPGs are.

I'm focused on RPGs and Square mainly. But even if they can't get info out in E3 I'll focus on Namco Bandai's stuff (Tales, Freedom Wars) until TGS or some other con that Square can get new info out during. I most want new info (a release date) because I want to put this dark time of waiting and wondering behind us. I want Square to release the game and be proud of it. Not keep second guess if it's ready or if they have the funds to keep working on it. I feel like the sooner the game's out, the sooner Square can get back to doing well with this game leading the charge.

I'd like to touch on a subject that has only been lightly mentioned in this thread:

A potential PC version of FF XV.

Now, Nomura said something to the effect of "we may consider a PC release for high-end PCs". indicating how demanding FF XV is in terms of processing power.

...But considering how far technology has come, a PC worth around $1,000 could easily qualify as "high-end". A computer user doesn't get much more mileage out of a machine worth $5,000+, as opposed to its less expensive counterparts. In short, the game wouldn't be another Crysis. Most gaming models would be capable of running it well.

I'd be far less concerned about acessability of such a version, however, and almost entirely about the protection of the game as a product.

Preserving DRM with PC games is virtually impossible. Even if SE were to jump through hoops in order to protect a CD-ROM, there's no way of preventing it from being shared through torrents and other such download methods. Publicly releasing it as such wouldn't totally ruin their profits, but inflict significant damage.

...It's for this reason that I think FF titles should not be cardinally released for the PC (even if we are now seeing a few ported to the platform - III, VII, and VIII, namely.) I can't foresee a possible PC release occuring within a year or even a couple of years after its initial debut on the PS4 and XBone. Nomura further echoed this during one of his post-E3 interviews last year, using tentative words such as "eventually" and "maybe".

Thoughts?

The PC market for video games relies heavily on community and sales, from what I've observed. Strong IP naturally sell relatively well on Steam in the initial run, but longevity of most PC games rely on the ability for people to mod/play together in the game itself or being given the constant incentive to buy through sales. Even if SE is considering FFXV on PC, a delayed release without an announcement would still be better for them, in my opinion. The game releasing on PC will be a pleasant surprise, and I'm sure SE will receive a good amount of extra revenue from it once XV's sales begin to slow on consoles. Along with Nomura allegedly saying that cost to port a game is less when it's DX11 hardware, the odds of us having a PC XV seems more likely to happen.

I'd still get it on PS4 though.

I will rather unscientifically choose to believe that we will probably see some new content in a couple of weeks, and I go for the second option. "At least some" new stuff can mean anything, from 5 seconds to 5 whole minutes of new material. If they elected to have a few new seconds of material in a Thailand Comic Con event, why can't they bring in 10 seconds of new FFXV footage at E3?

That's my bet made. I'll have a bunny to ritually slaughter in front of a Baphomet statue if I am wrong.

Right, that's what I'm saying. Only once it's sold millions on home consoles would they release a PC version. I'm planning on getting the PS4 version myself.

I'd look further towards other peripherals to be used as supplementary devices, during the scope of the game's immediate release. Remote Play by the Vita is to be expected and allegedly inherent in all PS4 games. Moreover, Nomura mentioned smartphones and tablets particularly, further adding something like "the single player experience is limited."

I'm taking that to be offensive and dangerous to FF as a franchise. Even if online play and external accessories are seen as progressive in the gaming world, I'm not fond of them. I believe that online multiplayer specifically should be excluded from mainline FF games for the time being, and reserved for sequels and spinoffs. By my account, FF is neither secure enough nor ready to integrate these features regularly.

I still can't decide between the last two. A little over a week to go and many things could happen between now and then. This might be a last minute thing for me! Still investigating and waiting on a couple of things.

Just let it ride man. No everyone's gonna get pumped up. And that's fine. All that matters is if you are enjoying yourself. And hopefully your enthusiasm will be rewarded.
I was pumped last year cause it was coming. This year doesn’t have the same vibes.

Personally, it’s not going to bother me if it doesn’t show up. I’m more hyped for the new Zelda game and Monolith Soft’s new title.

One thing that I don’t get though is the thinking that Square Enix has to show the game at E3 this year.

Is it because fans will get pissed off? Well, they’re a fickle bunch and Square Enix most likely knows that. They’ll flip a switch the minute you present them new news. This happened at E3 last year. They don’t really care how and where they get the news as long as the get the news.

Unless some pissed off fan manages to turn into a raging golden monkey and threatens to fire a Texas-sized meteor at Square Enix HQ. They not really concerned and will continue to operate business as usual.

Is it because of shareholders? Well, they already know the game isn’t coming out this fiscal year as Square Enix has a game unit sales forecast of 12 million. That number would be much higher if it were. During the 2010 fiscal year, FFXIII alone was 13 million in Japan. This year, they’re forecasting 3.4 million.

This really makes me think that it will not be a marketing focus anytime soon. There are also plenty of other opportunities to showcase the title as well.

Is it because they need to create some hype? Well… There is hype. It never disappeared and people keep talking about it. They’ve been talking about it for 8 years now. What I don’t think people realize is that over the years, FFXV has become quite the mysterious title and something people are curious about.

Is not sharing a lot of information on the game a hype killer or a hype builder?

If the game doesn’t show up, does that mean it’s in development hell? First of all, FFXV’s development issues are nothing like FFXIII’s. During the early days, FFXV suffered from structural problems. Direction was never an issue. Those structural issues should have been dealt with a long time ago. If they haven't been dealt with then oh boy!

Does this mean the project is delayed? No. Not really. For all we know, they have a projected release date and just don’t see the need to make such announcement yet. Not like it’s coming out this fiscal year or anything.

That said… It sounds like Square Enix’s showing will be western focused. One rumor says Deus Ex will be there. Those who are going to E3 have already scheduled their appointments and know what to expect. If there were any surprises, they probably would have already been aware of it. And those in the know aren't really saying anything this year like they were last year either.

You're leaving a lot of that fear to unexplained context. Ground Zeroes used a smartphone app which would use your smartphone as a map, instead of having you hit a button to check your position every so often. This online feature did not hurt the singleplayer experience whatsoever. It does not necessarily have to be multiplayer. A live map on a smartphone would be a pretty neat feature in XV if it's supposed to be as open-ended as we think it is. The map in the E3 2013 trailer comes to mind.

@ Lenna: By "open-ended" do you me alternate endings in 15? I never heard of that.
@ Squirrel: To me, after all this time, this seems like the year they would want to go ahead to put this game out there, at least in JPN. The longer the wait, for whatever reason, isn't gonna be good. Fan can be fickle, yeah. But stuff this multi-year long waits doesn't help. I'm not in the know about the economics or fiscal numbers. I just know my sister was in middle school when this game was announced and now she deep into college. It's been too long. Now is the time to put this matter to bed. If nothing else release a demo for the people if the game still needs work and can't come out till 2016.

While a story can be open-ended, I was talking about the world itself. We've already been told that the game will have an overworld and airships.

Of course S-E owes us nothing, it's all business and, while we are their consumers, they shouldn't bow to us, nor we should.

The problem is that if a company with so many fans treats them this way (I could understand it before, when PS4/XO hadn't been announced, but now...), then they shouldn't be surprised if this silence stigmatizes all of their actions, whether they are XV-related or not. Maybe it's because I'm one of those fans (well...), but I think they really need to start communicating better with fans regarding this game, I'm not asking something like LR or XIV, since the game is still far away, but I don't know, I think fans deserve a bit better.

Specially because if they don't show anything (even with those "the project is far in development"), people are going to be not only pissed off, but worried about something going wrong in the making of the game, whether that's true or not.

Basically, this has been (and is) a very delicate an unique project in terms of how it's been handled because of several circumstances. That's why it would be great if they saw that and how fans react towards the tiniest piece of info, because that would be good for their image and it doesn't even need to be something huge, even some scans every five months would do it for me xD.

Now that you say that, I'd prefer if the countries we'll be exploring weren't the whole world, but a part of it. Basically, a continent, à la Ivalice in XII. I guess I want more realism in that regard and prefer having a "small" but alive and proper-scaled portion of a world than having a planet with only five cities xD.

Also, that way, the (unfortunately) likely sequels could explore new parts of the world, not only this (I presume it's the world map, but who knows):

Just curious, doesn't this up your chances at thinking FFXV will be at E3 this year?

Google translated version lol:

"We think and "Final Fantasy XV" as well as "Kingdom Hearts III", and you can offer as considerable confidence to say in the country. In addition, even in the domestic market, currently, we are charged with Title sharp Very online PC games and arcade is similar. I think what you can not talk about the details yet current situation do a lot, and can be published or sequentially, such as E3." Some people see that as a hint, I tend to agree.

Who's the interviewed? I would have said Tabata, since Agito is there as well as XV (and if I'm not mistaken Nomura wanted him to be the XV face for events), but I don't know.

Anyway, they're always referencing distant events as an excuse to not talk in that precise moment about the game and make people wait, even if then that event comes and... well, you know what happens. I want to believe, but this fucking silence is crushing my already small hopes.

Hell, my sad only hope is that a (supposedly) Italian Famitsu editor (Prokanon) said in an Italian forum that they've had info about XV for a while and that it's on hold 'till E3 (I'm Spaniard, but since my mother tongue has a lot of similarities to Italian, I can understand it without relying too much in a translator). I don't actually trust this (I guess I prefer being pessimistic), but people in that forum seem to regard him as a very reliable source.

Man, how can a company do everything so wrong? Well, we'll know about this this week or the next one xD.

I believe it's Matsuda (CEO) guy? It's how this company always done things, it's not that it's wrong. If it truly isn't ready to be shown ( meaning the game hasn't evolved that much that it doesn't warrant a showing) then It would be kinda pointless to show it off.

However, it's been a full year ( still under the full production tag for 3-4 years now) I think they should be at a spot to do another showing.

It's not only that, but people place too much faith in their statements: "But they said development is going smoothly!". It's not like their statements have been exactly true in the past. Saying "this year is different" and everything doesn't make a bit of difference.
