If he can manage to direct a more tragic ending than Crisis Core's and Type-0's, then I anticipate it. I know he didn't necessarily say it would revolve around tragedy but I don't know how he would surpass those two's impact (I think he specifically said that in old interview? That's why I immediately thought it must be something tragic lol) with having that as a central element.

Then again XII managed to make me cry more than I did for Crisis Core and it generally had a "happy" ending.

Wanting to pull of an emotionally effective ending is fine and dandy.

Alas, I feel focusing on that alone is problematic - a decent ending feels hollow if the journey leading to said ending is arduous and affective significance needs to be built up properly. If I spend hours upon hours with dull, flat characters through tiresome gameplay and a nonsensical story, even the best ending in the world will leave me with a feeling of having been cheated.

You mean exactly what happened with Type 0?

I agree, it all comes down to the connection you have with the characters' journey throughout the game, therefore the impact entirely depends on it.

The wait for the 30th is starting to make me feel impatient now.

The main cast so far inspires confidence. Will they annoy us from time to time? Sure, what kind of human being doesn't? (One without personality, I suppose.) One of the art directors in a Famitsu interview had talked about "the human touch" in FINAL FANTASY XV, and so far I can definitely see it in almost everything that's been shown. With all that said, I leave everything up to Tabata and BD2, since that's really all I can do right now. The characters in XV already have a special place in my heart, and the game's not even out yet!

I think people are cautious about them because of their appearance. Weird clothes, crazy hairstyles, all while trying to be more realistic doesn't really work for many people. Plus, there's the VA, and people have mixed feelings towards that too.

Oh, right, those critiques (or complaints, depending on the comment) have been around. :p

Context is needed for that, if Noctis isn't likeable you wont want to play the game...
I remember that Nomura had said Noctis isn't the cool guy we think he is.

Okay, so that's no where near what you said.

Yeah, that's more in line with what I remember. It's not that Noctis isn't likable, it's that Noctis isn't the "cool" stereotype his appearance suggests.
Yeah, it's basically just Noctis looks like he's supposed to be this cool guy but he's actually a nerd.

From the official Japanese FFXV Twitter:

Fan meeting #1 takes place today at SEJ's Shinjuku HQ (that's what I assume). Two sessions will be held: a morning one and an afternoon one. The following staff will be present:
From development advancement: Ken'ichi Shida
From the art division: Yusuke Naora, Takashi Honjo, (Kaoru) Kawaguchi, (Chihiro) Hashi
From motion: Ōe (?), Tōyama
From character direction: Iwanaga (?)
From the background division: Hiromitsu Sasaki
Planner: Wan Hazmer

The official Twitter only gives last names, so names in parentheses are presumed first names. I'm also not 100% sure on the accuracy of every single name, but this is what I could gather.

Source 1
Source 2

Edit: The first fan meeting has ended! It seems like fans and staff were able to get fruitful discussion going. The staff in particular are thinking about hosting an event the night before XV's release, like a meet-and-greet with fans, but nothing seems to be officially announced yet. They took suggestions from the fans for one part of the event (it was like a work meeting, as one fan had said on Twitter). Of course, we won't know when that fateful day will be until March 30.

Other small info (translated from participants' tweets):
- XV staff do read comments on Twitter
- Their favorite anime from this season is ERASED (Boku dake ga inai machi)
- When the idea of a XV concert worldwide came up, they seemed to agree with that.

Regarding Noctis' supposedly unexpected "loser" personality that doesn't match his appearance, I really hope it's not just restricted to that description. Yeah, from what we've seen of him so far he has this aura of someone you can easily connect with because of his "trying to act cool" attitude (with moments of sass), but I personally want to see more dynamics. At this point I can already sort of see where they're going with how his character will act in general, so I hope they'll give him traits that will surprise me (in a good way) which would make him more layered. If one of the biggest main elements of the story is his growth as a person then they should go all out in moulding his character.
