I imagine Square Enix will do something with FFV, FFVI, and FFVIII. Every mainline entry has received some sort of remake or remaster treatment except for these three (currently 4 until FFXII HD is announced).

As Square Enix seems to have a lot of big projects in development, they probably just don't have the resources to do it right now.

They could always outsource/have a co-developer like they're doing with FFVIIR, where CyberConnect2 is developing with some of SE's key staff overseeing and directing.

But doesn't utsourcing still requieres resources ? (i.e paying to the outsourcing devs/company)

To be honest, I don't know if I really want a FF VI remake, as excited as I am about VIIR. Or at least not now, I want them to focus on XVI (I mean, they have a lot of people and, as Koozek said, they could outsource, but still).

We've been 10 (TEN) years without a new mainline entry announced (announced! Not even talking about them releasing the game!). Obviously referring to SP ones and not counting XIV (I'd love to get into it, but MMORPGs just aren't for me, I guess).

The amount of excitement before and after a new SP mainline FF announcement can't be topped. I really miss it.
It's the first FF game with a proper story with characters, I really enjoyed it when I first played it on GBA in the Dawn of Souls.
Yep, that's precisely why I don't know why I haven't played the game before: a classic story, with a classic villain is something I really enjoy even today. There's something heartwarming about those kinds of stories (big reason why I love the DQ series as well).

I have already downloaded it, so let's see when I can play for a good while. I'm very interested in this (more than I would be with, say, III) because of the story and how divisive people are regarding this.

Yeah but you can only have so many projects in the pipeline at once. Not to mention finding a developer who is freed up.

Works from Square Enix's CG production group, Visual Works, will be shown in an art exhibition at Shizuoka Prefecture's Ooka Makoto Kotoba Museum that runs from March 26 to August 31, 2016. The exhibition is called "Works of Visual Works" and will also feature digital art from a group that works with cutting edge technologies, Z-kai.

How kiddie is this game supposed to be? I don't care if the art is cutesy and all that, I am mostly referring to gameplay. Is this supposed to be dumbed down like another MQ, or is it supposed to be sort of for all ages and there's still a bit of strategy at play?

I honestly can't tell if I'm interested in this project or not.

As far as I've seen I'd say it's intended for people who miss the feeling of a simple turn-based FF on consoles and also to introduce that classic mechanic to the younger generation. So I think it would be the latter which you've mentioned, a game intended for a wider range of ages and audience with appropriate difficulty.
