Two weeks after the release of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PlayStation 4, Square Enix is holding something related to Final Fantasy X-2 on May 25 & 26. This has been tweeted by Square Enix's official 1st Production Department Twitter account which confirms Business Division 1 is involved in some way.
This is following the Final Fantasy X-2.5 novella and audio drama included in X/X-2 HD Remaster, Motomu Toriyama confirming he will reveal his new title in 2015 (which is almost certain to have nearly the entire core FFXIII team working on it) and Square Enix president and CEO, Yosuke Matsuda confirming a new console JRPG will be revealed at or around E3 2015 which occurs only about 3 weeks after this little event.
Is Final Fantasy X-3 going to be revealed in May or June? Only one way to find out.
This feels way too soon. I would brake down and be flooded by my tears of happiness if X-3 is announced.
Couldn't this event just be something to commemorate FFX & X-2 and that's that?
I don't know, this all just sounds too good to be true.
What about FFXII HD? There's got to be some sort of an announcement or tease for that soon, right (if it is in development)?
Maybe they might just say farewell to FFX and move on to FFXII? I'm going crazy.
Yeah, the craziness went over my head.
Hmmmmmm..... I just can't predict the project they're working on. All I can hope is that their project turns out to be an appealing game.
Toriyama is without a doubt the worst thing to happen to Final Fantasy.
The walking definition of quantity over quality and worst of all only 1 of the 5 FF games he directed is original and now you're telling me X-3 is going to happen? Please don't do this to yourself Square Enix. One of the great things about FF is that if you don't like the newest one you can at least look forward to the next one for a fresh start. Not anymore sadly.

If you want to go by Metacritic, then the only mediocre or lower game he's directed was Lightning Returns.
And if you want to go by sales, then only Lightning Returns sold poorly and that's only by Final Fantasy standards, since 1.5 million for a late life, second sequel on PS3/360 before PC, Dive In, PS4 and Xbox One ports is pretty good.

Well they mean much, much more than some random haters on the Internet. Square Enix and Kitase in particular think he's great and that's not going to change.
As much as I like FFX (third on my list as favourite in the FF series, without counting MMOs), I would not want this series to revive. New IP, yes; new FF series, yes; new old FF game, no.
And while we're at it:
No remake of FFVII - the game was great, it was done in an era where it was transitioning from 2D to 3D, remaking that will lost half its charm. Let alone the expectation that can never be met. Use it as your last resort, Square-Enix, we are far from that yet.
No sequel to series - FFX-2 was a fan-fest at best (some like it, I don't object it, but it was not a classic), FFXIII-2 and LR are more of a redemption and/or tried to reuse as much assets as possible while making major revamp of Square-Enix. Both of these sequels were not necessary and was lukewarm received. Release one good game per numbered FF, have DLC, have side games, so people can choose to buy it or not, but let's not make us find out more of a character we already knew too much about.
Love,
Faithful Squaresoft fan who's been through many dark ages with the company since the merge with Enix
I don't really want it, but I would accept X-3 on one condition: they deem the novella non-canon/alternate universe/whatever and follow a different path.
While i don´t agree with that statement , is good to know that there´re people that don´t consider Nomura to be the worst thing to happen to FF or Squaresoft/Enix (unlike some blind old school fanboys on the internet)

FFX was my first FF and it holds a very special place in my heart.
The only problem with X is the linearity in the overworld, a small part of what later made 13 complete trash.
That being said, X-2 ruined everything I loved about X. It ruined the ending of the original and felt like badly written fan fiction.
I'm personally tired of sequels for Final Fantasy games. What the franchise needs is new, fresh, innovative entries. Not the same tried and true formula over and over again. It becomes rote very quickly. Would much rather XVI, a spin-off or brand new IP be announced. I don't want this gen to be a disappointment for Final Fantasy like the previous one was.
Yeah, FFX-0/3 is happening.
I don't really care that much anymore if they taint FFX further after FFX-2, anyway. My good memories of FFX won't suddenly disappear. Just ignore it. It's annoying when closed stories get ruined and retconned, but well, what can you do - business is business.
Would love to see them make something out of the FFX-2.5 novella just for the fun of it Imagine the scene with Tidus and the blitzball in glorious HD made with Luminous Studio!
I really love FFX, but the linearity hits you at the end of the game. Despite all that, I still love the game a lot. My cousin described it like this... X-2 riding off of X wasn't received that poorly because X did so great that people are easily able to overlook a spin-off game. I have yet to play X-2 myself, so I can't weigh in my opinions on it, but needless to say, not everyone enjoyed it so much.
The XIII series is a different story. XIII was met with a lot of criticism from fans about its many flaws in both characterization of certain characters as well as creating a linear "hallway simulator" game that was described previously for having big open areas, when only one was present at the end of the game (Pulse) and was a disappointment. The marketing behind the game before its launch praising the game to no end was an obvious sign of their insecurities in the game and trying to squash them with positive marketing. The English release date announcement is an example of this... I'm sure you know what I'm talking about if you've seen it.
So, the rest of the XIII games (XIII-2 and LR) weren't met with the same optimism or forgiveness that X-2 did, simply because X was a great game, and so they let it slide. However, with XIII failing to meet fan's expectations and many disappointed in the game looking forward to the future of the series, we are met with XIII-2...
XIII-2 not only drags the story around in a completely random direction involving time travel and all this other nonsense, but it also was said to be the LAST XIII game, and they WOULDN'T be making a XIII-3. Nor would the true ending be in DLC... which they said then that it would... released DLC, and it still wasn't answered.
THEN they made Lightning Returns... spitting in everyone's face about not making XIII-3 when this is clearly what this was... At this point, the jokes about Toriyama emerged with his infamous stage for debuting the game effectively disclosing his love for Lightning as his waifu comparing her to a Rose which has "beauty" among other things. It was a complete joke... And, while I've seen mixed opinions about LR, I think that it did a few things right... that doesn't justify its existence. And of course... the ending which
basically reveals Lightning showing up in real world France...? What...? Time for Toriyama to go search France for his waifu I guess
Now, of course, these are all MY OPINIONS on these games, but I think it should be said that a lot of people also share these opinions to some degree. With that, you can see why a lot of people don't look at the sequels to XIII in the same way they looked at X-2 with X.
Going back to what my cousin told me, he said that if they made a X-3 it would completely kill X for him, which I honestly understand and agree with in some ways, although I think X being a good game as it is, it could never really do any permanent damage... but I understand what he means. I'm tired of getting sequels... the X-2.5 novel was a JOKE, getting mainly negative reviews! A lot of people have seen the P4R gaming thing where they blow the whole Tidas bomb blitzball thing out of proportion and saying that Nojima submitted fanfiction by mistake... but what's funny is, besides the fanfiction thing, it's almost dead on with what really happens in the novel... which is pretty sad.
X-3, to me, honestly shouldn't happen... I agree with a lot of people even here that says the sequels need to stop. If Toriyama does nothing but make sequels, people aren't going to take him seriously anymore. Looking at all the games he directed, he's only actually worked on one game that wasn't a sequel, and that's XIII.
Please... just start making original games... Fans ever since the FNC was announced years ago have been waiting for something new. Agito XIII (Type-0) and Versus XIII (XV) both being announced alongside XIII should have panned out and finished a LONG TIME AGO, it's 2015 now and the West is only now getting Type-0, and XV is still a little while away... fans want something NEW, and to even think about ANOTHER SEQUEL in the pipeline just makes me sick.
Let me just say once again, everything here was 100% my opinion and not stated as fact. I am not attacking anyone's opinions, nor am I trying to seem like my opinion is right or should be listened to over others. Please keep this in mind when reading, as I know some of you (Sora96) will disagree with me, and it is not my intention to offend or belittle anyone or their opinions.
Unless someone can say what they think Toriyama, Yuji Abe, Watanabe etc are working on instead of hating on Toriyama and the sequels I'll take little notice of them.
And to be clear, Toriyama also directed Blood of Bahamut. And for all you know, Kitase is the one saying they should do the sequels since he's the one in charge of division 1.
Well if Toriyama has to work on something it might as well be something that was already ruined. I'd prefer they just kept him to mobile titles, but after X-2 and the novel it's not like the X franchise has much dignity remaining. Perfect place for him.
