We will have to wait and see if the DLC addresses it, but from what I remember it does kind of clash with what Shiva says in chapter 12. Honestly kind of wish they didn't daemonify Ifrit because it makes him fighting for Ardyn at the end of the game less interesting imo. Also I'm a bigger fan of his previous model.
Perhaps Shiva woke up too late, but I digress, I am curious about that.

Shiva woke up in 745, 14 years before the beginning of FFXV, so she wouldn't have been awake for Episode Ardyn.

If Ardyn lost Ifrit in his fight with Bahamut and revived him with the Scourge around the time that Shiva woke up, there wouldn't necessarily be any contradiction with the existing canon.

I guess I will take the time to make my last post regarding the outstanding wishlist for FFXV, given the fact that the final DLC/update comes out in just a few days. I'll split it up regarding what lore I'd like to see expanded on, and what game enhancing changes/additions I'd like. So here we go, one last time, knowing full well this won't happen:

Final DLC/Update Wishlist

Story Lore:

EP Ardyn:

Who granted Ardyn the healing power and for what purpose? Was it Bahamut just like depicted on that book in the picture where he grants him the Crystal?

What is the origin of the decease turning people into demons?

Why did the Gods/Crystal support Somnus in betraying Ardyn?

What happened to Aera, does she hold more significance (is she the voice in the crystal that spoke to Ignis)?

If Ardyn was a healer, what was the point of the Oracle?

Why did Ifrit join Ardyn (how did he get corrupted by the decease)?

Does Bahamut have a personal issue with Ardyn?

How will the shitshow in Insomnia 35-years prior to the game relate to Kingsglaive?

Overall Game:

What exactly did Regis/Cid/Clarus/Weskham do to piss off Glauca in the past?

What happened to Noct’s mom?

What happened to the Emperor to make him the person we knew in the game? In the game it is briefly stated he used to be a kind ruler, did Ardyn twist his mind?

What triggered the collapse of the Empire, why did it fall into chaos before Lucis?

We need better clarification of what Messengers are; Umbra, Pryna, Carbuncle and Gentiana have very little in common.

Game Updates/Fixes

To enhance the narrative:

  • Patch a 10-15min voiced re-cap of Kingsglaive as the game’s opening instead of the Ifrit segment (or keep both).
  • Give a better explanation to why we’re collecting the Royal Arms, at least emphasize that Noct needs them to stand a chance against the Empire if he intends to take back the crystal – because in the game it feels arbitrary that you’re collecting them.
  • Patch a few completed cutscenes from past trailers into the game. For example, when Noct learns of his fate from Bahamut they could have the scene of Regis holding young Noct, or in the beginning of the game when the bros get to the Hammerhead they could have the scene where Cindy is underneath a car with her weird goggles. Or when the news of Insomnia’s fall gets to the boys, use the car scene from the 2014 trailer instead of the newspaper hotel scene etc.
  • When Noct touches the stone and gets struck by purple lighting to attain the power of Ramuh, patch a quick scene of Luna talking to Ramuh to emphasize that she’s convincing all the Gods to help Noct (i.e. Titan, Laviathan, Ramuh).
  • When we first see Ravus in the base and Gladio gets pushed back, add a mini boss fight where we use Gladio versus Ravus and make it an unbeatable fight. Only then play the scene of Ravus kicking his ass.
  • Before hopping on the boat to Altissia, change the Caligo/Loqi base raid to a mandatory mission and clarify Loqi dies (as we never see it officially happen in the game).
  • Add a short scene of Noct and Luna talking in Altissia before the Leviathan battle the next day, at least that would give them real time interaction at least once.
  • Shorten ch. 13 by alternating between Noctis and Gladio/Iggy gameplay, just have it as one chapter rather than having the “verse two” and making it even longer.
  • Give us a Glauca fight ch.14 (it could be a quest to defeat a ‘strong demon’ and not have any dialogue, his drop could be his sword and the invincibility armor for the boys).
  • Give Ardyn the updated moveset and “phase 3” in the final fight to make it longer (have the pocked edition extra dialogue, too).
  • Patch the scene in limbo before the Kings kill Ardyn and Noctis to it only being Noct, Regis and Luna against Ardyn. It would emphasize the father son relationship and limit the scene to dead people. Removing the bros out of that scene would also clear the confusion of them dying in the end.
  • Fix little overlooked elements in the game to make it feel more ‘real’ – for example, when Noct meets the bros in ch.14 after ten years make it so the three of them are wearing their Kingsglaive attire, it doesn’t make sense for them to be wearing the same clothes ten years later. Similarly, when we see Luna for the first time walking down the highway to meet Gentiana, change Luna’s dress to match her dress at the end of Kingsglaive.
  • Release a complete edition of the game and a patch that plays the DLC in chronological order as part of the main narrative (except EP Ardyn should be before the final fight, and the post credit scenes from the DLCs need to simply be moved to relevant times in the story). The DLCs could be re-numbered as chapters, for example “Chapter 9.5 : EP Ignis” could start right when Noct passes out on Luna’s lap and Titan emerges from the ground in the sea. Removing these gaps in the story by placing the correct DLC events could also help the dev team remove the stupid black screens that read “a few days later” that are littered throughout the narrative.
  • Patch in un-published lore for the game (including the cancelled DLC) to the dossiers. Additionally, I would add the Brotherhood episodes into the extras so you unlock them periodically throughout the game.
To enhance the game (it’s the little details that matter):

  • Patch the Big-Bang video as game opening before the title screen so that such a beautiful scene doesn’t get wasted on just one YT video. Replace the cheesy line that reads "a FF for fans and first timers" with "fantasy based on reality" as a nod to the roots of this project.
  • Shuffle a few Platinum Demo scenes as “dreams” where you play as young Noctis during a few campfire sessions (maybe limit these mini gameplay sessions to optional campfires).
  • Add some sort of BGM during ch.9 when Noct talks to Leviathan. The lack of music and cheesy dialogue options is too cringy in that part, at least add a background track instead of pure silence of cheese.
  • Fix the audio in ch.13 when Ardyn reveals his true identity, the BGM is too loud and we can’t hear his dialogue that well.
  • Make summons an extra equippable slot, so we equip the summon we want to use rather than have them random (also give us Bahamut and Somnus/Knights of the Round as a summon in post game)
  • Fix ch.15 as post-game, it should NOT have the red objective of “go to the citadel” – just a clean open world to explore. Also re-purpose Umbra as fast travel (not time travel) and let us visit all areas in the game as young ch.15 Noctis (Lucis, Insomnia EP Ardyn, Insomnia ch.14, Altissia, Tenebrae, Gralea, Cartanica). Since this is post-game, the timeline doesn’t need to make sense.
  • Hard mode.
  • Give us the option to customize the UI (eg: change distance from miles to km, from feet to meters, changing the objective marker to the arrow from EP Duscae, to map our buttons such as jump/pick up etc..)
  • Give Noctis the ability to swim in lakes around the Lucis continent, like Duscae for instance.
  • Apply some unique Comrades weapon models to weapons in the main game that are simple re-skins.
  • Give us the option to turn ON blood.
  • Add Versus xiii 4 bros outfits+Noct capeless attire as per the Ardyn final fight as costumes.
  • Let us change the title screen to Night/Somnus despite beating the game.
  • Give us an ‘open combat’ or ‘time attack’ mode in the main menu where we defeat waves of enemies as Noct in the Citadel.
  • Update small details like Noct having better model animations from prior builds (back-stab soldiers when attacking them from behind in bases etc..) or the environment being more detailed (better reflections, bugs around light sources at night time, chocobos waking up if you run past them at night time etc..)
  • I would alter the game’s weather to utilize more weather conditions we saw from debug mode on an everyday basis. So many mist, rain, cloud effects are barely used. Have the game use more of them more often when we’re exploring the world.
  • Bring back details from prior builds of the game in the PC version: like the ability to enhance the particle effects, the terrain, the lighting to be more like EP Duscae, or the enemy specific parries the game used to have etc.
  • More on prior details that got cut, update the Duscae Behemoth mission to it’s old state of looking for clues of the beast like claw marks and capitalizing on his eyesight impairment to blow up the gas tank to hurt it.
  • Add the Altissia festival to randomly appear on certain days when you visit the town in ch. 15 (I would say the same for the AC festival but not too sure if it’s a licensing thing preventing it).
  • Keep the FFXIV event permanently.
  • Give more NPCs around the world voiced lines of concern over the Empire advancing, or Insomnia falling, or over Noct reported dead. It would add more urgency and uneasiness to the playthrough and make you question doing a stupid side quest or progressing with the story.

Really wishful thinking:

  • Give us the option to run around as the bros in the open world.
  • Add the ability to recruit Cor, Iris, Aranea as 5th party members in the post game ch. 15.
  • Open world Cartanica region and the addition of that half-finished train station where we would see the boys board the train in ch. 10.
  • Expanded Tenebrae city and Shiva dungeon.

Now that's a wishlist

its sad 90% of it wont happen, some stuff that I think we already have awnsers for>

Why did the Gods/Crystal support Somnus in betraying Ardyn?
I guess it was just for convenience, Ardyn was cursed which only left Somnus as the best candidate (he managed to do something against the scourge after all).

We need better clarification of what Messengers are; Umbra, Pryna, Carbuncle and Gentiana have very little in common.
They have one thing in common which is central to what it means to be a messenger, to deliver, to guide the oracle and king, all the entities you mentioned do exactly that in one way or another.

If Ardyn was a healer, what was the point of the Oracle?
To communicate with the gods, and then inform the people about their will.

Since it's really coming to an end with this game and it's time we share our final wishful thinkings before the main update comes out, I'll join in on the fun.
I know, these are very unlikely to happen, so it's more of a list of the things I wish this game had in hindsight.

- Hard mode that rebalances the entire game from the healing system to enemies' stats and behaviour (pretty much the only thing I believe can still happen from this list).
- Bring back them god damn attack animations/combos that were cut from before 2015
- Restore the weapons to their original size (Wyvern Lance, Force Stealer). Make unique models for the weapons that are reskins.
- Rewamp humanoid bosses and enemies fights. Most of them feel sluggish, involve no reliable strategies (just the numbers game) or any proper rythm to them like they're designed for an MMO game rather than an action game.
- Implement more scenarios with verticality when it comes to combat. Throw in flying enemies to the regular encounters.
- Make an arena where you can fight waves of enemies like a Bloody Palace from DMC series with stages being all around the game's world, ending with daytime and nighttime Insomnia citadel plaza. And no, I don't think that Menace dungeons are a good alternative to that. They're ugly, repetitive and a slog to go through.
- Make Leviathan fight to be what they were initially setting out to do - fighting soliders in the crumbling buildings inside the whilpools, extend the actual fight with Leviathan before entering the Super Noctis mode.
- Implement DLC episodes to the game. Nuff said.
- Being able to toggle between two sets/decks of weapons mid-combat
- Combat elements and magic from Comrades. It's such a waste of good material to be held by that messy multiplayer mode barely anyone plays.
- Remake the armiger weapons so they have more unique animations, the airstep ability and for the warp-strikes (currently the only fun thing they have to them) to not drain as much HP.
- Standard Regalia to be driveable offroads, not just the silly monster truck version.
- The colour palette and weather effects from Ep. Duscae days and pre-release trailers.
- Give us the bloody level editor they promised.

For the plot, story and pacing I really don't wish for anything more considering it's clear as day that the devs never had a clear, solid picture in mind for the game's universe and continuity as many future "patches" to the story contradict to what was established prior (especially the whole deal with Ifrit/Shiva) and they never took the chance to flesh out what was needed when they had a chance (Gladio's character, neither him nor Iris ever addressing their father's death). At least this game has its wonderful ending sequence (minus the afterlife wedding bit).

Since i've already made a list and shared my hopes, now i have the urge to list what things other people have been asking that I don't want to see.
Please, feel free to contradict me.

-Walking as the bros in the open world:
This game focuses in Noctis and how he interacts with his friends. It is good that they have their episodes, but by not controlling them the feeling of them being real people is stronger.
In part being able to control them in fight already ruins part of the experience, because Noctis fight style depends on your team, while the other 3 can't interact with the group.
If they get more controlable they stop feeling like your friends and they become just "you".
-Open World areas for Niffleheim, Altissia, Insomnia, dark world, etc...:
Please, give me small areas with clear things to do in them. After 4 playthroughs I no longer get joy by just moving around. I need new experiences related to the theme of the game, not just places to run around in circles.
-Justifying shit: Ardyn stopping time and his illusions don't cause any plothole, he uses them exactly for what he needs and there's no other situation where he could have used them to his interests. So there's no need to explain his magic.
This goes the same way with retconing Kingsglaive in E. Ardyn.
-Luna and Noctis meeting each other.
Their interactions should be only made by flashbacks or looking the diary.
Having them interacting in Altissia would feel like a red flag saying "Alert, we are wrapping up their story". And will deminish the development of Noctis.
His arc is about opening himself up and sharing his feelings before he's too late. He hadn't this opportunity with Regis and Luna, but he can do it with his friends.
-Time travel or more universes/timelines being canon:
Why make things more convoluted? There's no point to introduce those themes when they don't add to the story.
We don't need/have scientific laws when we play Fallout, Tales of Symphonia, Catherine or other story driven games that have different routes for their playthrougs.
Premonition is a different thing than everything being possible and characters being aware and able to select what they want to do and change their mistakes.

You make a few fair points, however...

- Couldn't you still continue to have the experience you want by not free-roaming as them, and by not switching to them in combat? Especially if they handle it the same way they did with battle switching: by assigning the feature to the AP Grid. You could just never unlock it and forget it exists and enjoy the game at your leisure while allowing the majority of other players to have their full on FF party experience/proper road trip experience. It would be a shame if this feature wasn't implemented considering it already exists in the game files and just needs a bit of polishing to be made offical.

- Hahaha... I have never, and unfortunately can never agree with this. For me, XV is an open world game at heart which never should have had its world relegated to that condensed, abysmal mess we experienced in the later chapters. That's how I feel about that anyway, I am genuinely glad you can enjoy those parts though :).

- Agreed.

- I concur, they shouldn't meet before the incident in Atlissia however I would like if they brought back the feature they cut from the RE that allowed you to have her join the party if you equipped an accessory called Sylleblossom in Chp 14. She would've been controllable in combat and would have Bahamut as her summon, however I don't think she'd have any meaningful dialogue with Noct although I'm not sure.

- Hmm... while I mirror the sentiment that no more alternate timelines should exist (for the love of god focus that time on something else), at the same time I would love it if Umbra could bring the boys back to Insomnia.

Two days until the release of the Episode Ardyn DLC. However, tomorrow, the DLC may come out in regions, such as Australia, before us and before the 26th comes. So, anyone who receives the DLC in such regions tomorrow, try to keep the spoilers/impressions in a spoiler tag to avoid spoiling those who want to go in clean on the 26th.

It's so close, I'm so excited and at the same time sad for the final DLC. It's been a hell of a ride with this game. Let's hope Ardyn knocks it out of the park for FFXV's finale.
Same here for me. Also, I hope the Episode Ardyn DLC is canon to the main game's timeline/continuity. It feels surreal that there's two more days until the DLC is released, this wait has been more strenuous for me than it was with the Royal Pack DLC.

Yeah it’s a weird feeling, though I gotta admit that the overall hype for the Royal Pack a year ago was much higher. Guess we have to accept the fact that this game is slowly getting “old”.
