Does anyone with access to the new update have any idea how to place user photos? There's no option on the quick menu with User Treasure and the option for User Photo under Online on the main menu is grayed out for me.

Play as an avatar, then take a photo with the camera. The share prompt pops up then.

The online menu is for looking at stats.

Just like many previous ones, this is a very underwhelming update.
Not sure why they bothered implementing the avatar feature and not bringing in weapons/ sigil abilities from Comrades into the main game, which I would very much preferred instead.

No news on further modding tools either?

I strongly suspect that, as FFXV is the only game which has been made using the Luminous Engine, BD2's R&D team has been using the game as a testing ground for features that they want the engine to have available for future use. Whether the avatar features end up working out in the long term or not (and remember, previous networked features were later removed), it gives the team an opportunity to make sure that the engine can handle networking properly.

Nice! Lol, your 'mega posts' of a bunch of silly mods are honestly my 'XV news' in this information drought we're having. Good stuff~
thanks! the mods have been really entertaining

they never promised those features for this update just the character creator / treasure thing, tho i would very much like it if they somehow implemented the sigil abilities (or the entire healing system which is awesome)

edit:

theres a crowe mod (with her kingsglave outfit) coming soon (smn on discord is sharing his progress, its looking great).

Because doing so would devalue part of the appeal of the Comrades.

Someone tipped me off to the fact that Comrades mods work for character creation in the main story so I got my glasses lol
Ah, well if that hadn't worked it seems that Sylva posted some sort of save file that's set up to load all of the items in for the avatars and other stuff such as the Assassin's Festival items.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXV/comments/96hy0p
He also posted something about the costumes for the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration apparently aren't in the files now, which I hope is just to stop him from poking around more than anything else.

Ahhh man I missed it before it was taken down, not sure why it was either. Thanks for the heads up anyways.

EDIT: Also I should mention that modding in the options you want from comrades isn't the best option, as far as I can tell most things (especially any clothing besides pants) are broken on the Avatara model. Even the glasses clip into my character's brow. That being said , as far as the glasses go, could just be the nature of the model. For example the Ring of the Lucii is worn beneath my character's skin in cutscenes because my fingers are too fat lol. Alot of weird glitches with the Avatara model clipping through stuff like that, including the steering wheel of the Regalia moving while my character's hands stay at 10 and 2. Whereas the clothing and hair I've tried to import via mods from comrades seem to have broken physics like the coat staying static and dragging behind my model or boots appearing way below my feet.

Does Tabata want to make a spiritual successor to White Knight Chronicles or something? That hurt to write.

I spoke with one of the Reddit moderators through the Discord server they have going. Apparently it was just removed for a bit while they were going over things with Sylva to make sure the save files worked, and there wasn't anything malicious.

Someone apparently hadn't gotten the avatar items to load up, but all that was needed is to make sure that you copy the system folder from Sylva's upload into your own, but it will wipe your current main game avatar setting though it will unlock all of the items for customization.

So that's what it seems that Sylva was trying to explain, and a couple of people seem to have some success with it.

Probably not really that important news but the XV team will be at SIGGRAPH 2018 in Canada.
I found two talks, it's not related to XV, and also not streamed:

Talk: Animation to Games: Virtual Department of Games in Tokyo University of the Arts
Description:
Animation to Games is a collaborative project between Square Enix's Business Division 2 and Tokyo University of the Arts. Seven animated student works were chosen and then directed by the students, with BD2 game creators participating as mentors, over a nine-month period of game development.
Contributor/Moderators:
Norihito Ueno - Luminous Productions Co., Ltd.
Tomohiro Hasegawa - Luminous Productions Co., Ltd.
Takashi Kiriyama - Tokyo University of the Arts
Prasert Prasertvithyakarn - Luminous Productions Co., Ltd.
Isamu Hasegawa - Luminous Productions Co., Ltd.
Mitsuko Okamoto - Tokyo University of the Arts

Talk: Making of 'Out of the Cradle'
Description:
"Out of the Cradle" is a new documentary TV program that employs the latest cutting-edge computer graphics, and traces mankind's footsteps back to Africa, as based on the most recent academic theories, by utilizing our technical skills in visual expression honed through years of making video games and movies.
Contributor/Moderators:

Maybe not important, but interesting nonetheless. IIRC, developer conferences like GDC and SIGGRAPH usually result in interesting behind the scenes presentations getting uploaded at some point.

EDIT: Never mind. I didn't realize that the talk details had been released.

...I'm still interested to see what they're doing with visual effects for documentaries. Documentaries tend to have terribad visual effects, probably because of the cost of proper CG, so it'd be really interesting if they managed to find some sort of compromise solution using BD2's tools.

The documentary about mankind's history from Africa that Luminous Productions made was already finished a while ago and already aired, it actually got a ton of views on youtube.
This clip got 33 million views.

And this one 20 million views.
