Man this fucking painful i swear, just reading non-spoiler thread in neogaf is already draining.
Just keep in mind you're reading impressions of impressions from people who watched someone else play parts of a game in a different language. Too much noise, not enough signal.

Gamers are not known for their ability to sit back, digest info and be rational about it. First sign of anything that supports what they already think, they'll run with it.

I know, just want to expirience that by myself. Its really fucking unfair :(
Also i strongly dislike this Neogaf hivemind mentality, they read one impression of one guy and take it as a gospel, no matter if its positive or negative.

There's a core there that can't think for themselves for sure. And it makes sense, because people like that never say anything controversial enough to get banned. The upside to that is these are the same people that will actually read and consider what you say. There are as many issues with being too bendy as there are with being too stubborn, which is the core you'll get at gamefaqs.

But, that's the real lesson here. 80% of the people on the planet are just here to take up space, lol. There's no getting away from them no matter what you do.

Gamers in general are like this nowadays.

That's why I feel for video game developers since their job seems to be getting more difficult as technology advances. Customers are more demanding and they're not afraid to voice their intense disapproval even over something minor.

Tabata and team did their absolute best even with all the negativity this game has been shown.

Respect.

Takes very strong and focused people to finish their goals despite intense scrutiny and adversity.

The real football, sir.

I'll post impressions of the non-spoiler variety as I go through it -- a full week before the unwashed masses ;)
Lookin forward to your impressions!

I honestly don't even know why they call American Hand-egg "football". I've always had the impression it came when some dumb American went overseas, saw some people playing rugby and asked some stranger "hey, what's that game your guys like to play over here?" and they said "oh, probably Football" and he just ran with it.

7 days away from the review embargo and 8 days away from the release, I need to cool down a lot in preration for that dates.
I may actually be more looking forward to review day than the actual release. But, again, that's likely because of my hype hybernation superpowers.

So who else has been waiting for this since the very first announcement and is now going into sweats, bouts of being unable to think straight and overall lack of focus on anything that isn't related to the game? Dodging spoilers feels like life and death by now.
*Raises hand*

No other game has ever been rewarded my complete focus as XV, and i (almost) don't expect that to change once this ride reaches its final destination. Gives me an end of era type of feeling lol.

It's not the same, but I guess that "fabled game you're waiting like crazy" spot could go to FFVII-R. It's not going to be the same (thank god), but it does the job, as I'm incredibly curious about basically everything in regards to it. I love the original (one of my favourite games ever), but it's not my favourite one in the series and the attachment many people have with this game, in my case, is for IX (even though it's pretty huge for VII too), so I'm not all that worried about what they're doing.

Also, XVI, whenever they announce it (at least the first months/year, as it's the most mysterious time).

Ah, that 101 trailer was pretty cool, weird narrator (at times) aside. Saw a couple of new scenes, some of them very interesting.

A little conspiracy theory-ish for my tastes. Nothing you said is impossible, but it doesn't seem necessary (I don't think there was anything in KG that should bump this past a T anyway) nor would it be necessary to lie about it. I feel like if that was their plan and they flat out said it, no one would have a problem with it.

That and the official explanation just makes sense. It was taking up too much space, so they added it via download is all. No biggie.
Yeah, it's a bit silly, I admit, but it seems kind of weird that they'd choose to leave out cutscenes due to space instead of lowering the bitrate on existing cutscenes (and offering higher-bitrate cutscenes as free DLC) or paring back the language options (with all but the region's default available as free DLC, as Tabata had initially planned).

Anyway, my idea wasn't really that they thought they would get rated M so much as they didn't feel like taking the risk. There's no chance anything from Kingsglaive or Omen would trigger a re-rating after the fact, but it's not hard to imagine them influencing the overall impression of the highlights reel in a way that Squenix didn't want. And, if that was Squenix's intention, they'd have to keep it quiet to avoid alerting the ESRB (who'd obviously be more annoyed about the attempt to pull the wool over their eyes than the content itself). =P
