Some of the new concept art makes me sad that were not going to be able to explore Insomnia. It looks so great.
It's painful, I'd rather have conventional exploration in Imsomnia with that modern setting than Altissia.

Square did it again, got me hyped with an amazing city to only be resumed in a battle area (Eden, Palumpolum, Valhalla and now Imsomnia).

I mean, I undestand being dissapointed by it (I myself am), but I think it was pretty obvious from the beginning that, had they allowed us to wander around, it wouldn't be much, because of the sheer size and scale of the city (with all the citizens walking around) and plot reasons.

I always held some hope in regards to some of the narrow, flashy streets we saw in the 2011 trailer (which were a battle area, so maybe they're still in somehow), the Palace (this is a given, I'd say, at least some of it) and maybe its outskirts. But yeah.

Although, as much as I love Insomnia, at the end of the day it's another modern Tokyo-inspired city. I'd rather have cities like Altissia, Tenebrae, Treno, Lindblumb, Dollet, Lestallum...

the thing it's that cities like Altissia and Tenebrae with their retro/medieval style were used in other JRPGs games, while Lucis modern realistic setting isn't something we see much in the genre.

i love the cities in FFXV so far, but the gameplay/scenes of Imsomnia always gave me a distinct feeling, because it was something new; even with only a portion of the city explorable, that would be enough to sense the modern life.

Oh, I can see where you're coming from, especially because I kinda feel the same. Both in the "not your typical JRPG city" and in the... feel? you get when Insomnia scenes play out. I mean, nostalgia plays a big role (considering that, for the biggest part, we only had Insomnia, whereas the other nations/cities were nowhere to be seen, just mentioned), but I also think that the tone is different when scenes happen there. Both in aesthetics and through plot reasons.

Still, I'd kill for a 3D, big, interactive version of, say, Lindblum, Treno, Dollet... Maybe that's why I'm not that sad about "losing" Insomnia as playable leisure city, as I'm more drawn to places like that. That, and I'm pessimistic and had already assumed that Insomnia would be nothing more than a battlefield :cactuar:.

Also really like Noctis' room or hotel. Reminds me a lot of FF VIII, how often Squall just sat down to his bed and was thinking about the events. Noctis could do the same things.^^

I never expected or wanted an open world city for Insomnia, because it's just too big.
It is enough even if we can only explore some areas and go in some buildings (at least the government building).

I certainly agree the mixed setting is a rarity. I'm vaguely reminded of Xenogears: that had high technology clashing with medieval-style settlements. Mind you, at its core Xenogears was sci-fi while XV is fantasy.

To be perfectly fair, that's not saying much. It was kind of a gimme. Good news that it wasn't overtaken by a surprise surge from something else, though. But, ultimately predictable.

That award was based on game performance and presentation at E3 Judges Day. Considering P5 wasn't even playable at E3, I doubt it was considered in the RPG nominations.
