I have no idea what happened or what the lesson was there. Something about a dessert. I don't think I'll ever totally connect with ignis anyway.
I watched all the way through Ignis' episode, and the dessert was just a frame. The episode entire shows how Noctis is initially your stereotypical carefree and untidy teen (a most unfair stereotype in my opinion), and must confront an ugly reality when he realizes that Regis is dying and he will bear the unenviable burden of being the next king. Regis knows this, and asks Ignis to care for Noctis, as Noctis is a lot more vulnerable than he appears on the surface. Consequently, Ignis tries to tell Noctis about his future responsibility, and they end up in a one-sided quarrel with Noctis lashing out in anger. Cooking (particularly Noctis' inability to cook eggs in a frying pan without nearly ruining the pan) is just a way they eventually reconnect after the quarrel. The dessert ultimately acts as a way Ignis is still trying to please Noctis by recreating a happy childhood memory from his time in Tenebrae with Lunafreya.
It's a very moving episode for me, just behind Sword and Shield.
