I think you'll notice that the numbers went up quite a bit since opening weekend. That is consistent with my suspicions that it will have a slow burn effect. Here in the US, we're accustomed to big blockbusters punching huge numbers on opening weekend the tapering off, which is probably why you'd find so many of the haters thinking it bombed.
The movie is a video game adaptation for one. Traditionally those suck. And SE has contributed 2 movies to that perception (with apologies to Advent Children fans) and the inherent fanbase is divided as all hell. That there was improvement over last weekend is a testament to the reviews slowly changing the skeptics' minds.

it's not 35 reviews anymore. It's around 650, and they're still an average of 4.5 stars.
IMO, this is good for the game and the franchise. A big boom doesn't last. A slow burn is the best path to classic status.
FWIW, I believe the game will have a similar effect as well, so I wouldn't put too much stock into the preorder numbers. I think this is a game that needs to come out and be well-received first, THEN it'll sell like hotcakes as the perception changes.
