It doesnt offend me either if someone professes his love for a character I dislike. But it offends me to read that FF XIII destroyed the personality of FF or angry statements about how SE shoves Lightning down "our" throat - like you actually speak for all fans. Such remarks are just not criticism to me , thats hating. And I will just not remain calm if I read stuff like this. Its disrespectful to those who like the character. I know you are one of the "its my opinion, I can say what I want" faction that doesnt think they should show no regard to other peoples feelings to these things and I know you think I should remain calm regardless what you say and how you say it about the game but I wont.

Because I am the exact opposite. I believe that someone should not justify everything he says as "its my opinion". even if its your opinion, it doesnt give you the right to use that to be offensive towards something that others love if you are in the same room with them so to speak. In my opinion fans within a community should not only be respectful to each others opinion but to each others feelings and tastes. Criticism can be done without offending the people who love what you dislike. But so often people dont even bother with that. Instead they are all selfish and justify it all with the universal "Its my opinion" speech which apparently in their mind gives them permission to just offend things that their fellow user comrades like. And that just doesnt sit right with me. Just once I want people to be considerate of each other instead of hiding their malicious comments for the millionth time behind the "my opinion" mask.

But I have no doubt you will of course take all which I have just said apart yet again with your next comment to prove why I am so wrong. Which is also why I dont post my thoughts about FF XIII. Because you or the other FF XIII-dislikers here will then just take my post apart like you are doing now the whole time and trying to convince me that I am wrong and make me see the flaws.
I didn't realise me saying that I felt a lot of past personality from FF was lost in XIII would cause personal offense.

And I am not speaking for every single FF fan. I was saying that I understand why FF fans that are tired of Lightning are mad at SE because they have been fed nothing but Lightning for a whole generation.

Then let's do our best to make this site a natural get-together for people of various camps to mingle with, and to welcome the opinions each other without falling into the common internet standard of one side hounding the other into submission~
You deserve a medal. Not kidding.

Anyway, let's move on from this exchange.

I think so far the thing I have liked about the game is that combat system. Sure, I don't really like how I don't have real control over the characters since they like to stand in the way of attacks, but being able to change their roles on the fly while the action keeps rolling does make for some tense moments. I've yet to move on to XIII-2 so I don't know what changes they made with it.

yeah thats another thing that bothers me immensely - the fact that the XIII-dislikers hear "Lightning" and they go into "I hate her" mode right away. They hate on everything she does, says, wears. They hated Lightning Returns the moment it was announced simply because it has Lightning in it. say what you want but this is just fucking sick. How can you develope such hatred for a character just because she is the face of FF XIII. Or is it anger over the fact that she probably became the most iconic FF main character since Cloud Strife?

I mean when the Cloud outfit DLC was announced, instead of being excited to be able to wear Clouds outfit people went "How does Lightning dare to disgrace Cloud like this?" Seriously what the fuck is wrong with these people?????

Well, they took out the annoying property of first-Paradigm Shifts, where it would focus on each character and then let you keep going, which would cost you precious time that you could be using to say, heal or prep some Steelguards/Mediguards.

One of my main annoyances was fixed in XIII-2. You can now make your allies attack the same target if they were all set to Commandos. In XIII, if you had more than one Commando, they would always attack multiple targets - now you can pummel the hell out of one enemy with 3 COMs.

I loved pradigm shifts, even in the first one where the first shift had the few second long delay. I got a laugh or two out of seeing that particular character go flying when the camera is zoomed in on them.

Right, Paradigm Tuning! You can set a Paradigm to focus on one enemy or the entire group. For example, you could have a Paradigm Deck with Cerberus, the normal one, Cerberus-X, focused on one enemy, and Cerberus-W, focused on the group.
EDIT: Yay, an actual discussion where no one's arguing.

Anyone else Platinum these games? Took me about 130 hours to do XIII, and I think 70-ish for XIII-2.

That was it. A simple, yet necessary change.

When I first played FFXIII-2 I would use the commando setup for Serah that made her attack with the sword and not the bow. Sure I got hit alot but I had enough fun with bows in SO4 wth Reimi.

Truth be told, I got stuck on the boss on the Palamecia or whatever it's called. But I did get the Platinum on XIII-2. Hey, you have a PS3, too, it looks like. Nice.

I only Platinumed XIII-2. The accessory system and missions in XIII were too grindy for my tastes.
Aye, that trophy to get all weapons etc wasn't fun. Needed a guide to complete it. All that customisation stuff didn't rub off on me, I'm afraid.

While I'm thinking about it, should anything regarding Lightning in DDFF be allowed in this thread? I know it's not a XIII game, but Lightning in DDFF is technically XIII related content.

I platinumed FFXIII-2 as well. I got about 60% in FFXIII, but stuff came up and I had a huge backlog of new games so I had to stop. The worst part is the save i was using was on the road to having every accsessory/weapon for the trophy. Oopsy

I dunno. Depends what it is, I guess. Though there is a Dissidia thread.

Yeah, I made that thread. Only person who posted on it said the first one was the better of the two, said some characters were cool, and that the story was laughable, all without reasoning. Not really the best for discussion.

It's not easy being the voice of a generation. :D

As someone mentioned it, I think the whole costume business with Lightning is just tacky given that they've made absolutely no effort to give her alternative costumes that, well, are congruent with her characterisation. I'm particularly looking at the Aerith one. It's very random. Not befitting of her at all. I actually think the Cloud one is the best fit so far. But that's all I will say about the costume front. It's tacky, but it's not some kind of terrible heresy going on that is splitting the heavens in half as the dirges of hell sing searing flames to engulf us.

You wanna know what my favourite thing is from FFXIII?

=D

(why couldn't this have actually happened?)

Caius is the best thing from FFXIII-2. Okay, I have issues with his silly costume and one of the most absurd swords I've seen yet in the franchise, Liam O'Brien's voice is the sex. His voice alone is worth me spreading around the gospel of Caius Ballad. And I'm so glad he's back for Lightning Returns, because damn, we need more of his voice around to soothe the ears.

In fact, Lightning Returns has quite a lineup. Caius is there. Mog is around, with a whole village of Moogles. And we have Lumina to be the game's resident troll. And Snow actually looks like a cool badass. I quite like this change.

Did you draw those? I can't really tell what transformed. Looks like a dude that transformed into Serah but in the second pic it looks like a huge robot thing.

I don't really mind the costume stuff. I like most of the ones I've seen, and then there are some that are down right terrible, IMHO. Lookin' at you, Miqo'te outfit! I mean, sure, the costumes are pretty much a gimmick, simple as that, but I like the way the battle system is looking too much to care.
