It's quite interesting how the tide of optimism changes so frequently in this thread. Some brave soul injects some hope surrounding this title & we happily flock to it like moths to fire. Then the game goes AWOL at a premiere conference & then we return to the cynicism, the finger-pointing, & the outright disappointment.

This game has made its fans emotionally-turbulent wrecks.
I'm not sure why there was a sudden change in a lot of people's hopes in this thread. Seemed extremely odd to me. I thought someone had hacked a couple of people's accounts, the sudden switch was that strange.

I keep saying, expect nothing and you may come away happy. I'm telling you, the best way to be when it comes to FF15 is to just not have any hopes at all. I would say it's good to have hope, but what's the point when you all just keep getting disappointed each time an event comes and goes with no mention of this game? I don't feel sorry for anyone that hasn't learned that lesson by now.

The game will come when it comes. They'll reveal info when they want. But stop expecting things every single event because all this game does so far is make people unhappy. Why do people keep building such high hopes up, only for them to be crushed again and again?

Well, because it shows our strong dedication to the game. We are willing to beat ourselves up over waiting for it, some of us taking the unrealistic optimism above all odds, speculating how cool it would be if they showed "this" or "that". I don't mind if I'm disappointed, because I enjoy getting hyped up over this game. You and others might not like wasting your time, but me... I enjoy speculating about the game, my predictions for certain things, as unrealistic as they may be sometimes, that's okay with me.

One thing I found interesting was in a discussion about Type-o (I forgot the article and the interviewee) they spoke about using Directx for Type-o and was "from what we learned from developing XV".

So, you can take that how you will, it could mean XV at it's core, is complete, it could mean they had a hard time with Directx at the beginning which could be part of the long dev cycle (I assume this to be true, switch to HD delayed them, 3d nearly delayed them, etc).

This is from a few months back, but if you haven't read it (it's long) it is an excellent read, and rare fairly candid look at Square Enix, very much worth reading:
http://www.usgamer.net/articles/where-final-fantasy-went-wrong-and-how-square-enix-is-righting-it

For good or bad, it would seem SE are in a changing phase, which seems to be having a ripple effect on products, but, if it works out correctly, should ensure a much better future for them.

I have the feeling that FF XVI (not XV) will be the game that will change things once and for all. I'm not implying that XV will be a bad game or anything, but it's been a HUGE part of this ~eight years mess. They need to come clean with a pattern-changing title, and that will be XVI, in my opinion. A back-to-the-roots yet innovative iteration in the franchise (I could perfectly be talking about XV, now that I read myself...).

Someone did say the 16 will be more of a traditional Final Fantasy.

I'm fine with "action-oriented" its not good to limit yourself to just one kind of RPG style. But it would be nice to have certain mechanics that have stuck for a long-time back with a modernized twist.

And who would this somebody be?
I think he might be mistaking Kitase's (was it Kitase?) words in which he basically said that XV's focus on action didn't mean that XVI would necessary going to follow that trend and could be more traditional.

I'd love for them to go back to the system found in XII and tweak it under Ito's helm and with Amano's art (he's a freelancer now, so he could do it). Also, a comeback to a purely fantasy setting (after XIII's sci-fi and XV's modern settings), something among the lines of IX (more fairytalesque) or XII would be great (those are my favourite settings along with VI and VIII). Note that I don't include XIV, basically because I'm not into MMORPGs :p

Not at all, this game has everything riding on it, including SE's future.

Yeah I remember that. It's possible but right now we know nothing about FFXVI. Too far away to even care and think about.

Kitase's statements about reviving past battle systems, were in the same interview in which he said that XV is "quite far into development".

Reading this interview again over a half a year later, it's somewhat disturbing how Kitase indirectly suggested that there might be a grand battle-style FF in the future. The ability of 8th-generation home consoles to render many characters at once, allows for massive battles with many participants - as is seen in FF XIV. Re-reading that just now gave me this horribly eerie premonition of that happening.

No, I enjoy other styled RPG's, I'm a huge fan of the Tales Series and is currently loving Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. I even enjoyed Kingdom Hearts. My concern is the series staying 'action RPG' and not returning to it's turn-based style anytime soon.

Indeed, if they have 16 ready for release to counter the inevitable criticism XV is going to get purely from not being able to live upto hype, then 16 indeed, could end up being far more important in the wider picture than 15. If the quality is there and the timing is right, who knows, in a few years we could be back to quality mainline FF titles every 2-4 years. (XV should sell fantastically, but if anyone thinks that game isn't going to get reviews that fine comb every last tiny shred of it will be in for a surprise)

If 16 follows 15's dev cycle you can say goodbye to Square Enix console RPG's and hello to Square Enix as a fully mobile/portable developer and more focus on publishing.

But of course, 16 won't follow 15's dev cycle, that would be so utterly ridiculous that the brain couldn't comprehend it, so therefor, I'm calling it impossible haha, plus they are working on it already/should of heard the outcry of 15 loud and clear over the many, many years gone by.

We need 15 first though! :p Looking forward to big screen Type-0 in the mean time, even if that's still someways off, depends if it's start of summer or end of summer I guess.

Yeah, that I understand. With Ito still working on a project, I can only hope he conceives a new battle system that is fun/innovative in either category.
