Wow. XV continues to be the game that keeps on giving. This is the Square Enix I've been missing. And let me just say, I'm really envious of the people who get to work on this game as their day job.
The ambition in this game is so pleasing, and it's great seeing Nomura's goals gradually come to fruition. From the vastness of the game's world, to it's seamless design, to the visuals bordering on pre-rendered CG. I'm gaining more and more admiration for Tabata both for his approach as a director and the transparency with fans. Seriously, that I really appreciate.
I'm a huge fan of nuances and subtleties, and that preview had so much detail. The dynamic lighting is gorgeous, and looks so natural! It's crazy knowing that a lot of the actual content wasn't even present either. The animations for one, are super impressive. Seeing the guys get winded trying to keep up with Noctis was amusing. Even seeing them actually adjust their body weight and posture when running and stopping was such an awesome little detail. Stuff like that really goes a long way and humanizes the characters beyond the scripted scenes. The potential for neat random exchanges between the bros while exploring the world is something I look forward to.
A few little things I thought were neat
- The 1950's styled car models (classy design choice)
- Noctis pulls out and checks his phone (29 seconds into the video)
- The characters take notice of their surroundings, like buildings and airships.
- While roaming, the party doesn't cling too close to Noctis and seem to move about their own pace in the same general direction
Seeing more of this game, always makes my day better. Cannot wait for the next showing.
