There seems to be this act of redemption going on with Square Enix right now and they're trying to make a strong comeback. You really think a guy like Toriyama fits with that plan? Personally, I don't. He's part of the reason why some people were completely turned off with Final Fantasy and the company in general last generation. They're trying to erase that way of consumer thinking. The impression I have currently is that they're not fucking around.
Toriyama seems better suited for mobile gaming the more I think about it. Nobody really seems to care all too much about high standards in that market so it could be quite the breather and a bit more relaxing for him. He could actually raise the bar a notch, even though I don't think that's really saying much. He can have all the creative freedom he wants and make that Lightning dating simulator he probably dreams about. It's perfect!
