I don't think there's much that can be done in regards to Luna. Luna at least in my eyes is a no BS type of character, so snarky remarks and what not would just seem out of character to me. Sure, she can get more screen time, but I don't think it's going to change the public viewpoint of her. Both her and Gladio are the archtype of characters that put their duties ahead of their relationship with another member. Regis was trying to balance relationships with duty, while Noctis for some time simply tried to avoid it. I think Luna's passing served its purpose as a lot of people felt bad for Noctis during the time of turmoil.
And incidentally want to throw Gladiolus under the wheels of the train.

Wouldn't that type of dialogue take away from the fact that they are fugitives? Like it's bad enough that Noctis and the way the sub quests are done kind of takes away that this man lost his father and kingdom and is on a quest to stop an empire.
Nobody stays every day moping around when they have lost someone. Noctis has his friends supporting him and keeping his good mood in this situation. It's realistic if in a few days he can be distracted and don't think about it.

I think if they dont show another side of Luna, making her dlc to be all about Noctis again (which is suggested by her dlc description), then all hope to change public opinion goes to waste.

as it is, she's simply not a good character imo, more screen-time won't change that, characterization will tho...

Re: on the Luna and Noctis having a moment before the Leviathan rite.
I don't think them having one moment secretly meeting prior to the rite in chapter 9 changes the whole motif of them only being able to be together in death, as a moment like this would be fleeting, and only further influences that something like this is their one chance to be truly together for as little as they can because of all the external circumstances weighing on both of them at that moment.

Like what was mentioned earlier, there is actually a period of time in Chapter 9 where Noctis knows exactly where Luna is after his meeting with Camelia, and with a day passing until the rite, so say for example he did sneak out to meet up secretely with Luna at night and escape the manor for a bit to go somewhere together, like to the edge of Altissia or something, maybe had a moment like this in the images, but also knew they had to go back before Dawn so as to not raise suspicion of the Altissia government that was supposed to be holding her. Then the next morning when Noctis see's her from the crowd up on the podium they give a knowing nod to each other, the context of that scene still remains the same even if the had a little moment like this, or whether they hadn't, because it's Noctis looking proudly up at Luna, but if they had that little moment beforehand it could give it a lot more.

And on that note, the above picture was drawn by Yuki Matsuzawa based on a concept that Yoko Shimomura told him, and it was used as the cover for the Piano collections.
As well as this companion art

The 1st picture actually has a bit more to it, with a piano by the lake.

And this new picture of Noctis and Luna they showed when announcing the 2019 DLC had Noctis and Luna as kids playing the piano, with Shimomura confirmed to be making a new theme song for it.

So I wonder maybe they could have something like Noctis and crew heard about some sort of tale about a ghost piano or something near a lake somewhere in Accordo, and when sneaking out that's where Noctis and Luna go, and could tie in to any potential flashbacks to their childhood spend together and is symbolized with the piano motif and Shimomura's new theme song.

Either way I'm expecting some new flashbacks scenes with Noctis and Luna regardless, otherwise why else even show that image of Noct and Luna playing piano when announcing the 2019 DLC.

The main issue with Luna isn't her lack of screentime either, also earlier mentioned, it's that not enough of her interaction with Noctis in particular is shown for us to get a good enough idea of their relationship. And I disagree that she is not a good character, her character is fine, the issue isn't her character, it's that she isn't seen interacting with other main story characters enough outside of Gentiana and Ravus.

As far as non party member but story related "princess" type characters go in JRPGs or Japanese games, Luna actually has pretty much average amount of screentime, especially in comparison to Zelda or even say Kairi in KH1. Like Kairi has less than 30 minutes of screentime in KH1's story, and Luna has just over that amount in XV, not counting anything from Kingsglaive or her actual 3 minutes in Brotherhood.

Also these versions of Sorrow Without Solace and Disquiet should be used in the game somewhere.

How about this option instead:

Carbuncle is a Messenger who is associated with Noct's dreams. So, what if they added a Carbuncle quest in Altissia where Carby leads Noct to Luna in his dreams, and they get to spend time together (maybe even watching the fireworks from the festival version of Altissia).

When Noct wakes up, he sighs and says, "Only a dream." But then, the game cuts to Luna's room, where she says something similar, proving to the player that Carby had brought them together for real while leaving the characters in the dark.

In the scene of Luna waking up we could see the Carbuncle figurine glowing in her desk.
So child Noctis gave her the toy when they were kids in Tenebrae, so she can be "protected from nightmares" like it did with him.
That could be a really sweet nod.

Problem with that would be he'd need to have given it to her at some point before, probably sent it with Umbra.

In Parting Ways he's supposed to have it with him, I thought that was part of the excuse for Carbuncle saving him on easy.

once again, the lightning here is beautiful, it doesnt look flat and cartoonish like in the main game.

yeah the way she interacts with anyone is the same in the main game; really curious to see how they would handle her behaviour in another social context.

I could see this version of Sorrow Without Solace playing in a cutscene for Episode Luna where she's in one last intense fight to change Noct's fate and you start seeing flashbacks of their childhood as the episode closes out with "To be continued in Episode Noctis." Then Episode Noctis picks up moments after Episode Luna to bring this little storyline to an end and you meet up with her as party member at some point in his episode. Kinda hoping there's more connectivity between these episodes beyond just the common theme of challenging fate.

Also completely agreed on everything else you said. The night out before the trial definitely has a place to fit in snuggly into the story without conflicting with other details of the narrative.

I think while this is a cool concept it doesn't have the same weight as them finally getting to meet in person while knowing that the moments they have are fleeting and then having to carry the thought with them of how close they got to being together. I honestly wanna see Noctis propose to run away or something or maybe even have Luna suggest it and show her waiver from her sense of duty for a second just to show that these guys are still just kids with the weight of the world on their shoulders. I think it'll lend itself better to the overall tragic nature of their romance if they can get as close as possible to attaining it but can't and have to live with knowing how close they got.

Re: Luna and Noctis having an (intimate) scene together

I'm all for having scenes with Luna interacting with other characters in a less formal way, but not with Noctis. The ending is the pay off to having them not being able to personally interacte with each other up until that point, a small and brief scene with them together having a personal moment might not break the ending motif entirely but it will definetely water down its effect.

The exception to this would be their short days as kids at Tenebrae, having scenes together at that point is fine, after that? DON'T.

Nah, I have to disagree, the ending wouldn't be watered down at all because that's them finally being together without everything else getting in the way. A moment before that where they come extremely close to being together but can't will only serve to highlight the fact that they finally got their wish in the end after fighting so hard for it and it will let us connect to Luna through Noct which will help with selling the romance as a whole. The pay off is still there at the end and with something like this it's even greater imo because now it's something that was snatched from within their grasp by fate and destiny when they almost had it rather than being something they never really had at all but was shoehorned in at the end anyway.

That final scene was a sweet moment but it didn't fully register with me as a proper payoff because while I was happy that Noct was finally happy I couldn't care less about Luna's side of the romance. It was just like "Oh hey Noct's happy! Oh and I guess Luna's there too. Cool." It also arguably has less of an impact as it is right now because there's zero tension before that in regards to whether or not if they'll have their moment together. That final scene just sorta happens. The second you reach Altissia Luna gets merced and then we're supposed to be relieved that Noct is finally with her again at the end when we never saw why he would want to be with her in the first place? We're just told she's a swell gal the entire time but we're never shown it and the romance itself just kinda plateaus after so much build up in regards to meeting Luna. As soon as she enters as a major character she exits the very next moment without showing us why and how her and Noct still connect beyond the childhood friendship or their roles as King and Oracle.

Having Luna be all fun and quirky during their childhood days in flashbacks is all well and good but it also clashes with her present day self and that's where the whole problem with her as a romantic interest lies because we've never seen that side of her and it makes it hard to sell that she's still that childhood best friend and lover to Noct when all of their interactions after that are all about duty and destiny only for us to then be hit with that throne room scene out of nowhere. It's almost as if child Luna and adult Luna are two different people. As it stands right now adding in a scene like a secret meeting in Altissia would not only help sell Luna's side of things but would also help by giving us proper buildup and tension which would then give the final throne room scene proper context. Piling on more kid Luna scenes doesn't help to alleviate the true problem with her character which is that her present day counter part doesn't seem like someone in love with Noctis but rather someone who is just dutifully bound to him.

Hell at this point Ignis comes off as a better romantic interest than Luna does because we've seen him shed that dutiful side of him and fight tooth and nail for Noct as a friend rather than a bodyguard, we saw a genuine connection revealed between them whereas before he was just his babysitter. Present day Luna doesn't have that going for her and she desperately needs it if they wanna sell this romance with the last chance that they've got. Coincidentally Ignis also has a childhood scene with Noctis and it just goes to show that flashback scenes like those are merely framing devices for how the characters got acquainted and it doesn't serve as a replacement for proper depictions of their intended relationships in the present day. Like I said before, all of the aspects for a proper romance are there except for that key connection with Luna, we never get to see what's behind the facade of the Oracle because we never see her interact or address Noctis in any other manner. Keeping them apart completely isn't going to solve that and it makes their final scene together feel empty even if it is a nice thought. Got more of a payoff from the final campfire and the repeating of the car pushing scene than I did that one and the significance of both of those scenes was properly built up throughout the game as well.

I don't see many talking about this but didn't Ray's performance feel a bit off at times?
Really felt like he was hamming it up too much at times, especially when the aliens take Noct's phone and the way he delivers the line sounds like they just took Prompto and shived him in front of Noctis lol Not sure if it was just rushed/bad direction or what but struck me as odd while playing

I consider that it's porpously made this way.
It remembers me to the Cup Noodles sidequest, where the characters acted campy because the voice actors found that too cheesy.
Probably Ray wanted to have fun with how Noctis is a bit of a dork.

so considering the pitioss datalog does mention Solheim making experiments related to alternative dimensions, maybe thats why the TB event happens in a place full of ancient ruins?

But the most incredible aspect of ancient technology is its ability to seemingly manipulate time-space as we know it. Based on out current scientific understanding, every bend in the fabric of our universe must be counterbalanced elsewhere—our scholars suspect these ruins might be the space in which those interdimensional kinks are worked out.

explains how these 2 characters from different universes met each other, i think.

still about Solheim, creepy sounds can be heard coming from the ancient structures (if you turn the music off).

with chocobo's carnival and asscreed festival they stated pretty soon that they were going to be time-limited, and different than those, Tbs collab was added inside the game.

edit:

there's a dope out-of-bounds area in the dlc

Yeah, and that's one of the things that piques my interest and curiosity to Solheim.

Damn no wonder Prompto doesn't like these place. Being dark and derelict ruins is one thing but to have persistent weird and foreign noises ringing in your ear has to be a pretty unnerving experience. Even with kingly powers of light that's some scary shit to walk into. lol
