From Polygon's footage on Oct 6th(youtube compression)

From Gamersyde's footage yesterday(direct feed)

Something fishy is going on here. Second on is clearly worse: texture streaming/pop-ins and dithering on hair and less or lack of anisotropic filtering.

I just watched that vid on Gamersyde and the textures just haven't loaded all the way yet. That will happen from time to time. I see this on a lot of open world games. It's not really a problem.

God dodging post with content I don't want to see is tough xD

I thought they fixed this when I saw the first few minutes of Polygon's gameplay back then.
It is a problem and I hope they fix it. But I can live with it if they don't.

Looks like the distant shrubs/bushes have gone back to being ps1 jpegs again as well
EDIT:Nope looks like they look like that in the polygon vid as well due to low LOD.

Lack of AF is quite apparent but it's not rare to see it missing in PS4 games.
Makes me feel that the preview build have no got the patch applied.

The preview copies they sent out aren't the latest build. If you want to see what it will look like, the Eurogamer video from a week or two ago is still your best option.

Before you think "what? that's crazy, why wouldn't it be the best build?" keep in mind that this edited version used for the demos is likely a snapshot build from before the latest master version, so they could be tested and burned to discs to be sent out. They did the same thing with some of the events as well.

So, don't focus too hard on that stuff here. It's not relevant. The story here is the gameplay and the flow and feel of the game.

If that's the case then cool :)
And what the hell is AF, lol. I've seen it a few times today. I don't know any of these terms, except the obvious ones like AA. It's like, I can totally see the difference between builds, I just can't ever tell *what* it is.

Like, before Koozek confirmed it for me, I could immediately tell that the Polygon video was a step backwards from the Eurogamer and other Polygon videos, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Whatever it is, I can see it most easily in the rocks.

Does Koozek have a source for what you are saying?. I noticed a difference too when watching the Polygon vid even though it is still much better than Gamescoms build. The image quality is incredible but the trees aren't as great as the final build that we saw.

Anisotropic filtering. Basically how textures are filtered/how textures look at oblique angles. AF is the best method adding the best clarity and crispness to textures. While trilinear filtering method, seemed to be used in ED and it made some textures like the ground look blurry in the distance(but sharp up close). This is why AF is used to add depth and high quality to such textures.
Many multiplat game suffered on the PS4 with no AF present while it was in the Xbone versions.

He didn't post a source, but I trust him. He's one of the most knowledgeable fans out there and isn't prone to hyperbole or spreading misinformation. He's one of the few people on the 'net I wouldn't bother asking for a source unless I just happened to be interested in reading further.

But that's exactly the same impression I got. Much better than gamescom, but definitely a step back from Eurogamer. Another one of the bigger differences is the camera. Compare the latest Polygoln video's indoor footage to the Eurogamer cave footage. It's night and day.

Ahh, ok, that one I had heard of, I just couldn't reconcile AF with the full words, lol.

How did the AF look to you with the other build?

Pretty much the same tbh.
I just expected it too be improved in he preview build but what you said about not focusing on these builds as the latest ones makes me feel at ease about it.
It's not THAT much of a big deal though but it should be looked into by the devs since it is a expected feature in AAA current gen games.

EDIT: I have not watched Eurogamer build.

Dude. I know you're looking to avoid spoilers, but for the most part they just screw around. I'm interested in your take on it. You should totally watch it. At least some of it.

Gonna make this as hard on your as possible to resist, lol:

Edit: Watching it again, the hair is a huge step back on the newer vids, too. Looks way better here.
