Speaking of impressions, @DrBretto, has your Red Sox source allowed anything yet, or is the site still in its mandatory mourning period?
Nada. I suspect that's because he would then have to admit he was wrong and sucks at evaluating things :p

But, I don't expect much. It was just s fluke he happened to mention that one. I don't reach out to ask him for this stuff, he just says things (almost universally to tell us plebeians that we wrong wrong to enjoy something because it sucks). If he does, though, youll hear about it here first.

So now that we know that framerate, visuals, steering, etc have seen significant improvements in the latest build, what would the negatives boil down towards it at this point? (if people who played the latest build mentioned any?)

I think right now is just a stage for everyone to worry about story :(

Please be good. Because everything else is just perfect right now in my opinion.

"This feeling of optimism starts with the gameplay.

What initially felt clunky and haphazard, now feels engaging with a great sense of flow. Tightened control of Noctis and his friends, partnered with an overall simplified system of mechanics allows the gameplay to not get in the way; my major complaint of any Final Fantasy XV demo up until this point. It’s become more hack and slash, and it’s the better for it. Not to say that the game doesn’t require skill. When surrounded by Imperial troops, with a mix of snipers, riflemen, and melee combatants trying to take you down, you do need to be on your toes and quickly switch up your attacks and defensive maneuvers. Gone are the pointless deaths where you swear it’s the game’s fault. This time, the onus is on you to keep yourself alive, and if you perish you have no one to blame but yourself. This improvement alone makes the game a substantial improvement from what we’ve seen before.

...

Seeing more of the story and understanding the connections between the characters also really helped with putting a smile on my face. The story of Final Fantasy XV has always been intriguing, and the world has constantly been beautifully realized. But there has always been the fear that the richness of the narrative would muddy the tale it’s trying to tell. Playing through the first three chapters of the game, I was heavily invested in Noctis’s plight and at no point felt confused as to what was going on. The story is told almost exclusively through his lens, and anchoring it in his viewpoint gives the narrative some resonance. There are a ton of characters and plot lines, but how they relate to Noctis is overall the most important part."

can i play the game already?
Seems like a great preview!

Hoping that they've managed to optimise the camera. Other than that everything else looks great.

Same stuff that is being complained about on Neogaf(In one of the latest threads), about it not being turn based, the characters being cringeworthy(boyband), it not feeling like final fantasy(whatever this means, im guessing open world with quest markers or it having cars/guns even tho people forget older ff's had them), it being boring, the voice acting being bad, and not trusting square after XIII. Also people having a bad reaction to platnium demo combat and thinking its bad/clunky.

At this stage the only possible concern with XV would be the narrative. My personal concern would be whatever narrative flaw XV may have it might end up being blown out of proportion by some fans that are approaching the game with a "it´s either perfection or pure s***" mindset or similar.

Man, the Yongyea restrospective brings some memories. Can't believe I was only 15 when we finally learn Noctis and Stella's names. I even remember the day I read it and I have the shittiest memory.

Also, I can't get over how Nomura butchered such a great design as pre-2011 (especially 2009) Stella: the 2011 had her looking like a fucking elf and the glimpse in XV wasn't so great either. I was also not the biggest fan of Luna's first design, but now I really, really like how she looks (the small tweaks to her face, even if subtle, are very noticeable).

To think about all the story beats, characters, SONGS, places, costumes (highly important for me!) and shit we don't about yet makes me really eager to play this fucking game. Hell, we know basically NOTHING about the Star Plague, and that's most likely the most important plot if previous FFs are any indication.

It was in 2012 when I really heard anything about Versus XIII. I was absolutely fascinated by it, its atmosphere and characters. I'd never have dreamed that it would come this far, change so much, yet still be the strange and wonderful thing that it was all the way back then.

original Stella > Luna > Naminé 2.0

i remember to be dissapointed by the change of clothes and the 2011 trailer gameplay also, it was very far to the promised "extreme action".

Thought i was the only one who noticed.

Really hated her ears in 2011. Hate hate hate hate HATED it.

Actually didn't mind Namine 2.0 as much as many people did in E3 2013, but i agree above current Luna curbstomps.

Idk what people are smoking when claiming 2011's gameplay eclipses what we have now, and i frankly can't give a shit about the old party switch anymore considering they had a crappy "MC/Noctis dies = game over" design planned for it. My least favorite combat element in Persona.

Attack combos looked sluggish as hell and auto weapon switch existed, the only thing that looked KH-esque was the UI command menu (which was exactly what Nomura stated back then) and magic.

Much prefer the combat of today IMHO.
