The demo did send alarm bells wringing for me. I'm still not too fond of that section of the Titan Demo. Yet still it is a minor gripe for me now since u learnt soon after that the boss battle will be much more involved and possibly less janky/messy than shown in the demo.
Tabata did said the Titan Trial demo only represented 30% of the actual fight.
Not only is it just a part of the fight. In a post-E3 ATB, he outright stated that the Titan Trial demo was specially tailored for E3, not just lifted from the game. The actual fight both will be longer, and have different victory conditions. WARNING: DO NOT JUDGE A GAME BY ITS E3 DEMO!

Just how Noctis slides off the Titans arm while close to it and in mid air. The animation at certain points seems a bit unpolished.

I'm not really judging the entire game from a demo but I am to a certain degree judging the demo segment of the game based on a showing of said segment of a game that will be releasing soon.

I was glad to find out soon after the demo that the demo was tailored to a certain gameplay experience specifically for e3. I'm quite sure the full polished and final version of the battle with Titan will be of the most epic of proportions with fun and varied gameplay :D

Man, I haven't even mentioned the music during the Titan Trial! I feel ashamed lol.

The track is one helluva boss battle theme. It's like final boss level stuff! I fear for my ears when they are subject to the orgasmic melody that the final boss theme is sure to have in spades!

And I also can't get enough of the battle theme in the Wait Mode Trailer:

The beginning of it sounds to me like it shares similarly to the intro of FFVII battle theme melody:

And at the same time it has the Prelude playing in the background :3

The biggest problem with the Titan demo for me is the lack of context. You don't get any buildup. What made ED work so well was that you were first put into this relatively normal world, you do your typical RPG stuff and run around for a bit. It spends 2 hours establishing how big and badass the behemoth is, only to have you, the player, summon Ramuh in the end, making what appeared to be a ridiculously powerful enemy into a pile of dust. The Titan demo can't sell the epicness without the buildup.

Or, like the Dawn 2.0 trailer, which I have a sneaking suspicion will have far more impact after watching Kingsglaive. The devs are choosing these things because they have the benefit of context. They already know the characters and the world and these things have impact to them because they know why Regis is crying. They probably are pretty confident that the Titan fight is super epic, too, but there's a ton of buildup that we don't get to see, so it doesn't mean as much.

FF a romance, not a porn. You can't just skip to the climax. The whole series is based on emotional impact. This is one of the main reasons why I am still quite confident that the ones that are the most skeptical about this game are going to turn it around once the game is out. They're not feeling it now because they CAN'T yet. The context will make it all make sense and be more impactful. Just think about how much the Anime has colored the characters so far. And that's just 10 minutes a pop.

I think the titan demo had its problems with or without context.
I just think it was on overall bad demo from what I have seen and heard. Unfortunately I have not been able to play the demo myself but I still think my opinion on it would be unchanged if I had. I still thibk though that the segement of the titan battle we were shown was probaly the most 'relaxed' part of the battle and the parts we haven't been shown will blow us away. Bit for now we will have to agree to disagree on this one I think.

We're not even disagreeing. We're both saying it wasn't a good demo. I've just explained why it was a poor choice to begin with, and expressing my opinion about it's lack of importance in the long run. This isn't an argument. You're describing one angle, I'm describing another.

And I also can't get enough of the battle theme in the Wait Mode Trailer:
I only realized now. It's a more forceful version of the battle music from Platinum Demo. Listen past the squeaky toy and child Noctis grunts, and you can hear it's the same as in that gameplay video, just with a lighter instrumentation.

The reason Noctis is sliding off Titan has nothing to do with the demo being "janky" it has to do with the way it handles the collision of Titan's arm. You're not able to scale or climb on top of enemies in this game, therefore, Noctis slides off of enemies instead. Plenty of games have done the same thing in the past, it's a very common practice to where I sort of recognize it on seeing it and relate it with other games or systems in my head.

The only thing "janky" about the E3 demo was the cuts it made for the sake of brevity and speeding along the battle. As for the overall demo itself, giving users multiple ways of defeating Titan would confuse the player. It's better to just hold their hand so that they can perform one scripted event they know has high impact and can show what they want to show.

Keep in mind, these demos tailored for E3 are just that... for E3. They're designed to get across a concise message and something that can be shown and repeated. They create a sandbox for you to explore where they make all the rules. It's much like watching someone demo a game on stage where everything happens for a reason, even if when you play the game it isn't exactly as scripted as it looks. That's because they want to give you a certain impression about the game to get you excited.

So, why have it so you parry Titan and then freeze his arm off for the fight? Because it looks cool, and it shows off the many aspects of the game and makes Noctis look like a huge badass. Why wait on all of your party members to show up? To introduce that you have multiple party members that will help you out in battle and show their support through actual battle actions or sometimes little events like when Gladiolus helps Noctis defend against Titan when you travel around the side of the area. Then you have all of the four party members throw Blizzaga at once to show their team work and ultimate take down of Titan with Noctis delivering the final blow to cut off his frozen arm.

Everything was done for a reason so that everyone could get the same reaction and the same epic feel. If you found a way to defeat Titan that just involved chipping away his health or something, it wouldn't really be that impactful, and not everyone would get the same reaction.

The point of Tataba clarifying later after the demo telling people that this is just a small slice of the possibilities allows the players/viewers to let their mind wander at the many possible scenarios that could play out in this small chunk of an epic fight and it gets them excited. Let the player imagine the possibilities, it's by far a better way to get people excited then to shove everything in their face at once.

Overall, the only thing that was negative about the Titan demo was Mat unable to dodge and failing at the MS conference, otherwise, it seems like a lot of people really enjoyed it, especially the music.

Out of curiosity what do you guys expect quality wise for sode quests in FFXV?
AFAIK it'll be the first single-player, non-sequel, non-remastered HD FF to have a decent incorporation of side quests, so honestly it might be hit or miss.

Just a warning that sometimes these companies will put their own guesses for release dates, so definitely don't take it was gospel. I hope it's true, though. I'd rather watch it on my own TV than drive 80 miles to watch it with a bunch of people in uncomfortable seats. If I only have to wait an extra week or so, I might make it.

It would be very optimistic to think that hunts would play out like hunting Deadeye in ED.
It seems to be just normal open-world rpg fare. We've heard about some kill x amount of monsters from the previews. I wouldn't expect too much more from the bulk of side quests. The focus is the main scenario.

My biggest issue with the demos we've got so far is that they don't represent the game in the way they should, or at least properly. I mean, I've seen a lot of complaints regarding the game being too simple (Press O to win) or just not deep enough in terms of an RPG game. It's a real shame because us hardcore XV fans we know so much about the gameplay and are 100% it isn't going to end up like the demo, because we've watched and read anything and everything about XV so we're not in the dark here. However, I wouldn't blame these people for the misinformation they have because I honestly believe its SE fault for not having a good marketing campaign for XV.

Many would argue that the Uncovered event is great, and it is, but the whole Platinum Demo thing left a really bitter taste in peoples' mouth. Instead of selling the game to people it just made them more skeptical about the direction of the game. I had so many friends expressing their utter dislike regarding the gameplay because they didn't understand what the hell they should be doing or how to deal with the dodging system. SE gave us a demo with no tutorial to guide people and help them understand how the combat works, It was up to the fans of XV on Youtube to give a coherent tutorial to turn things around and even that wasn't enough to change peoples' mind. I don't think people want to hate XV, but the constant bad demos and showings are all confirming the existing doubts a lot of people had after the whole XIII trilogy that got a lot to lose faith in FF as a brand.

Sure there were a lot of good footage and trailers but they were shown during ATRs that only XV fans would watch which really doesn't help at all. I just really hope SE would somehow make a great comeback in the upcoming convention and give FFXV the presentation it deserves to get.
