Keep in mind the game has had its development moved from CyberConnect2 to a team at Square Enix proper about two years ago [
Source] with development allegedly getting the reboot treatment (similar to what Nintendo did when they moved Metroid Prime 4 from Bandai Namco's Singapore studio to Retro Studios). Even Nomura himself has admitted that the game was announced too early last year due to "his preference [..] that Square Enix reveal its games before rumors or leaks upstage what they’re doing" [
Source], also stating later the same year that "Square Enix’s PR is currently focused on
KHIII, but after that, it will focus on
Final Fantasy VII Remake" [
Source], which I think explains the radio silence.
Now, can we expect FF VII Remake information this year? I'd say yes - but to which degree, remains unknown.
