I wouldn't call going on a wedding for Noctis to marry the Oracle regular stuff, the Insomnia fight would have been cool, but it wouldn't have worked for the story they made, after they heavily altered Versus XIII.

Going off to marry the Oracle might not be regular stuff, but going off to marry a childhood friend is.

FFXV's biggest shift, I think, is from treating the ritual elements of Noct's role as little more than a checklist to fill on an otherwise ordinary road trip to focusing on those elements while using the empathy and sense of humanity the first part had built to keep itself emotionally grounded.

Ok let me rephrase that going to marry the oracle that happens to be your childhood friend whoe you were destined to marry while slaying hordes of monsters using your Armiger superpowers wouldn't exactly call that a normal road trip.

Bumped up to 9 GOTY awards thus far!

As it stands, after doing bits of checking, FFXV actually has the highest total amount of (specifically) GOTY awards out of any FF title in the franchise. S.E. done good.

This new, I haven't seen a site doing GOTY awards 4 months after the year ended.

Wouldn't put it as strongly myself, but the sentiment is there. It's not just P5 and XV we got. We got Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Tales of Berseria, Overwatch, Dark Souls III, Abzu, Mafia III, The Last Guardian, Hitman 2016... The list goes on.

I mean, it's been one the best years in a while, with 2017 looking even better. You have to very jaded (or very into taking shots at XV) to say the opposite.

And this is said by a guy who, for several reasons, only bought Firewatch, Uncharted 4, FF XV and Battlefield 1 in 2016, but I can still see how good of a year it was for most genres (both from what I've played and from what I've seen).

Despite certain games coming out without features that should have been present day one (e.g. SF5 Story Mode) or games that were falsely advertised (e.g. No Mans Sky) 2016 still turned out to be a pretty solid year for games. I'll take that year over 2014 where there wasn't a lot of quality games dropping imo.

In comparison to years of previous FF games like FF7,8, or 9 wouldn't call it a great year. It was a good year, but I don't know if I would call it a great year, not the worst year, but just not as great as previous FF games

Did you just list Mafia 3? or Hitman? Those aren't good examples.

I think they're saving themselves up for E3.

They don't necesarilly need a constant flux of news until some of the big events, just a (small) flux of gameplay stuff between the DLC releases (like Timed Quests every few weeks as @Jubileus said), cause currently the only thing going on right now is a snapshot contest and nothing else.

Speaking of E3, I predict that here is when we will get our first look at the multiplayer.

Timed quests are back on the 27th this month.

But this is a single player game after all, it doesn't have to active all the time.

Ah, good the hear that the timed quests are going to be back on.

True, a single player game doesn't have to be active all the time, but seeing as there is lots of content planned for FFXV, it would be better to maintain interest in some form, even if it's timed quests to keep players engaged.

Maintaining engagement is key here imo.

Right now, Zelda, Persona, Nier and Horizon are dominating and FFXV is swept under the rug. It's not uncommon for me to see comparisons of those games to FFXV, with FFXV coming out as the least preferred title.

I think they did already. I don't think for example the first of two final bosses is effected by the ring.

It's something that's unavoidable. Between the development hell, the long wait, and all the changes that took place, I am content with the situation. If any of those other games were constantly being brought up for years and years with no release date in sight, they probably wouldn't have been received as well vocally.
