One person has a couple negative things to say and this is supposed to warrant reactions like "yikes" and "not very reassuring"?. This is insane.

They're obviously meant tongue-in-cheek.
When posting here, you need to take the personalities of the posters in account as well.

Having said that, this is literally our first encounter with someone who has actually played the second half. The "negative" reactions are referring to that, seeing as it's already quite established that the first parts of the game are looking very promising.

It's not unrealistic that the later parts don't hold up as well as the first parts, so it's not necessarily "just the opinion of one person".

... it doesn't matter to whom you directed that comment, Storm's comment is still applicable. He didn't claim nor imply that you directed at him. He merely made a general statement regarding your comment.

And he's right. Only expecting positive previews, reviews and comments is silly. Reacting the way you two are doing now to two tongue-in-cheek comments based on our first impression of the second half, is silly as well.

That preview is indeed "yikes" worthy. The only question is whether other critics will feel the same way or not. And even then your own opinion can end up being totally different. But for now, yes "yikes" is applicable.

I wonder why Squenix gave their first 40hr preview to Edge, of all outlets. It's pretty well known that publishers generally snub "wildcards," and Edge isn't so much a wildcard as it is guaranteed to be harsher than usual (they gave FFXIII a 5!).

I'm guessing this means a relatively relaxed review embargo?

I'm seeing something more like the Ash Wyrm from FFXII. It, too, used the same animations as the behemoth.

I think it's great.

I already know that I'll enjoy the game. The question is how much. I'd rather know as much of the criticism upfront, rather than hear the same or more praise over and over again. I'd rather experience all the positive things myself. However, knowing about (potential) negatives helps me set realistic expectations.

I appreciate outlets that dare to be critical, as long as they're being fair. The Edge preview is fair. Also, for a major part it sounds like subjective issues. I'm fine with that. That information is more useful to me than the 56th preview that repeats the same positive things. My enjoyment, hype and opinion isn't influenced by what others feel. I loved XIII for example, even though I consider it very flawed and agree with most of its criticism.

I haven't read the whole thing, but that Edge article doesn't look all that negative, and frankly, I'd rather the first one be the negative one anyway. It'll be fun watching the masses rise and fall with these previews, lol. Especially if the next one is glowing.

Kiiinda wish I hadn't read the spoiler back there about the second half, but it's written, I guess in the tone of someone that wasn't feeling it, but sounded good to me, so I dunno.
