I find the whole debate slightly pointless. Noctis doesn't have some inherent power level that makes him stronger than the rest. He's more powerful exactly because he's the only playable character. AI contolled characters can't be very strong because then the game would just play itself with regardless of the player's input. If they went with the original vision of having all of them playable, the game would have been balanced accordingly to make everyone useful.

Prompto in reality is actually pretty shitty at combat, that's why he jumps around and rolls on the ground, it's because he's trying to look cool over actually being effective. Regardless, Prompto is better at guns as he clearly has a larger range of weapons and abilities surrounding them. As for your Tidus comparison, that's a poor comparison as Tidus could easily hit just as much as Auron once you give him more Strength. For example, Wakka is great at flying enemies, but that's just because he has a long-range weapon with high accuracy, not because he's just better at it somehow. The only thing they bring that's different is their Overdrives, otherwise you can max out every character with everything on the sphere grid and everyone will hit exactly the same max damage... yes that includes Yuna hitting enemies with her stick.

I love that GIF so much, so much cool shit happening all at once.
Oh yeah, I mean I'm aware that in X everyone ends up pretty much the same if you're a hardcore Final Fantasy player (which to be real most of the people on this forum probably are) but I was more referring to the majority of the game where characters are for the most part restricted to their own parts of the grid. The characters, at this stage, all bring separate strengths which don't, in my personal and admittedly flawed experience, invalidate each other. Noctis is special because he's a weapon master, but I don't think that means the characters who specialize are useless as a result.

(Yes that GIF rules Cor is a BAMF and I'd kill to know what Ignis was doing with his weapon there. It's all glowy!)

I'm forced to agree with Leon here, haha, Noctis does have a power beyond that of his companions and we haven't even seen him with his heirloom ring yet. I agree with you on pretty much all the rest of this, though; there's a similar conceit in the VII compilation, after all. Cloud being a mako-produced superweapon with the cells of an alien god is a cut above all of his friends in sheer power. You can really see this in Advent Children, and in the sheer power of Angeal, Genesis and Sephiroth in Crisis Core. His party still manages to be integral to everything, and I don't really see why XV couldn't do something similar. Especially given what we know of Kingsglaive and the ability of Lucian royalty to pump up their most devoted warriors.

I also happen to think the party is pretty darn useful already, though I could be talking out of my ass here. The full game hasn't released so obviously any reference to statistics from shown material might not be representative, BUT. The damage numbers on their special abilities seem really massive, and at least two of the members (Prompto and Ignis) have been shown to be capable of inflicting status effects, Prompto's being a bit more useful than Ignis'. I dunno man. They seem really worthwhile to me, and all three of them are very cool cats. I'd love to be able to play as them.

I mean "power" in terms of gameplay. It only depends on the game's balance.

EDIT: To further clarify and avoid misunderstanding, when I'm talking about how "powerful" a character is, I'm refering to their usefulness in gameplay. I don't care if he has superpowers and power level over nine thousand. It only depends on the game's creators and how they decide to balance it. In FFXV's current state Noctis sure is OP compared to other characters, but using it as an argument for why others couldn't be controllable makes no sense to me. If the developers decided to make everyone playable like in versus, then everyone would be made powerful enough to be worth playing as.

Just had a wild idea, watching a trailer for P5. What if, in the wake of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, SQEX and Atlus collaborated on a Final Fantasy title. Atlus would handle the gameplay, particularly the battle system, and cooperate with SQEX on the technical side, while SQEX would create the storyline and characters.

Not thinking a spiritual sequel to TMS, but an entirely independent project. And this time it could be for a platform with less restrictions and some real PR weight behind it (not on Nintendo, basically).

Yeah once the game releases it would probably be good to move on to some sort of "All these spoilers are real guys" thread, but for the time being this thread seems like a nice home for spoiler discussion unless it gets too bloated.

This seems strangely backwards to me, since Atlus is so much better at story while Square Enix is so much better at making battle systems.

No please, each game can do their thing alone. I honestly can't stand Persona games.

I see how you can argue about story, but when it comes to turn based battle systems Atlus pretty much wipes the floor with most Square games.

Atlus sticks to pretty basic rock-paper-scissors turn-based stuff, which I find tired as heck. Square has at least demonstrated they can move beyond that.

Gladio is a bad ass, I'm sure he got it on purpose.
He looks like one, but from developer interviews and what we see in Brotherhood, I'm not sure that carries over to his personality. THe thing that XV is spelling out in no uncertain terms is that you mustn't judge any of these characters by appearances. More so than any FF to date.

I'd never have one myself, but I'm interested in how tattoos are used in stories. Hence the musing.

I didn't know where to post this so I came here >~<

These lyrics in the new "Too Much is Never Enough" had me pretty intrigued about the plot.

And the crown it weighs heavy
'Till it's banging on my eyelids
Retreating in cover and closing the curtains
One thing's for certain, oh
A year like this passes so strangely
Somewhere between sorrow and bliss

Oh, who decides from where up high?
I couldn't say "I need more time"
Oh, grant that I can stay the night
Or one more day inside this life

And who cares about the thing I did that night?
So what? Maybe Luna had it right
And who cares if I'm coming back alive?
So what? 'Least I have the strength to fight

I find this part particularly interesting
One other year; a hundred flags flying in a field
[?], felt it let go of me
One other year; a hundred flags flying in a field
[?], felt it let go of me
A hundred flags flying in a field
[?], felt it let go of me
One other year; a hundred flags flying in a field
[?], felt it let go of me

Could this be some sort of foreshadowing to some character death in the game? I'd love to hear what you guys think about it.

Wow, this has started my speculation wheels whizzing. First impression was that it might be Noctis, but looking carefully at the lyrics.... Maybe it's Regis' inner thoughts during his final days, before he is killed in the attack on Lucis?!
