Exactly, my point was that if you can't fly around in them and you can only auto pilot there's no point in them being in the game anyways especially if you can't even fast travel.
Yep, and they sure wouldn't have made all this fuss about maybe not being able to get them in the game if they were just going to implement them like X or XII. That would be easy as hell to implement.

I hope it works something like this, and that you can manually fly ofc.
Green zone is where you can land, red where you can't.
Also try not to be too jealous of my insane paint skills.
This masterpiece is how I see it as well. I can't imagine the problem is collision detection. I think it's more about the changes to the open world system needed to make extreme hights not look distorted, which if you think about it could be pretty tricky. Sounds like they figured that out though. It's easy enough to basically build an invisible blanket over everything that acts as an invisible floor until you're hovering over an approved landing territory.

The only question I have left on it, besides the speed because that's a technical issue as well, is whether it will have artificial borders around the continent, or if that continent will be the whole world and you can fly around it and end up back where you started like the old games.

Also, I would like to see an autopilot as well. Open the map, select a location and it'll fky you right there. For the lazy and/or chemically impaired :p

That's exactly what I was thinking about the airship, too.
You can only fly between these borders.
By starting/landing the airship, it could happen in realtime or by a loading screen (well actually you are in that airship, can't get out yet/can't look outside what's going on and by that time it is landing/starting without seeing it, so there's no need of a loading screen).
Only flying automatic is a bit useless, so much effort to "only" see the view as you're flying??

Hey does somebody know the time at which the event starts? The Uncovered page says it's 7pm PDT but that would mean it's on 9:30pm where I live. However, the countdown clock (which is immediately below that) said it would be 4 days and 12 hours (before the event starts) just half an hour ago, which would mean the event starts at 10:30pm where I live. Does anybody know?

The correct time: March 30, 2016 at 7pm PT/9pm CT/10pm ET

They also have a preshow an hour before the main event.

EDIT: Maybe the problem is that you looked at PDT time, not PT. I don't have a clue about US time zones, though.

I mentioned this on gamefaqs ( omg that place is such a wretched cesspool, BTW.) But most likely the counter just got knocked off by an hour because it was started before daylight savings time in a time zone that doesn't observe it. The event is still listed as Wednesday, March 30th, at 7pm Pacific.

So you finally noticed. There's no discussion to be had there.

Well yeah, here it says 7:00 PM PDT and the counter isn't right. Perhaps it's as DrBretto said.

Yeah. God help me, I keep trying to talk sense into these people and I know it's futile but there's just that part of me that can't help but tell the damn truth to someone who needs to hear it, which is a sickness in itself, but sometimes people are so bafflingly insane I can't help but just be like "who did this to you??" Lol.

The timer on the official site is correct for me, though (4AM in Germany).
I don't think the counter is for the preshow, because that's not hosted by the Kinda Funny guys AFAIK, but Dan Seto & Co. from SE itself.

EDIT: Lol, wait. It's wrong for me, too. 7PDT is an hour too early. 7PST is right, though.

Do you observe daylight savings time?

I'm guessing not and that solves the case. The timer doesn't observe daylight savings time. It will be right anywhere that doesn't use daylight savings time, and it'll be wrong for anywhere that does.

It also proves that there's no reason to believe that anything changed for the start time of the event.

The timer on the site is wrong. I live in California and according to the timer the event will start at 8:00 PM. So just subtract 1 hour from the timer and that'll be correct.

I don't use daylight savings and it's wrong for me. Guess that doesn't solve it?
Guess not, that was based in the timer pointing to different times for different people and was the only condition.

He edited his post, too, so it looks like it's pointing to the same time for everyone, right? One hour past the listed start time? Puts it back to square one.

Daylight savings would be backwards, I'm just realising, too. We're in "spring forward" so if it was pointing to what would have been 7 o clock without the change, it'd be counting down to 6pm, not 8.

The most likely option still seems to me like someone just messed up the countdown timer regardless, but doesn't look like we can blame DST.

I've seen my share of sports and tgey will list things on the commercials like "coverage begins at 6:30" and the countdown timer counts down to the first pitch, so I guess it's plausible after all. I had the daylight savings part backwards, that's the only reason the timer issue seemed like the path with the fewest assumptions.

Yup, the whole timer is wrong. Daylight savings time is not to blame.

Welcome DrBretto! I totally agree, I signed up first to GameFAQs in hopes that we could discuss FFVX and quickly found that to be eroneous, so decided to come here instead:happy: This is an excellent forum! I see there has been an enormous amount of activity on this thread since I was last able to post, its (almost) moving at a neoGAF pace, lol! anyway I have read through all the great posts (especially yours and as always Rin's and Koozek's) and I think I'm finally caught up. Ive been thinking of all the trailers recently and I'm gathering my thoughts right now in-light of the recent FFXV Japan stream that happened.

This thread post to me was quite interesting and actually served as the catalyst for me to sign up here and I wanted to bring it back up here. I know now Tabata has been given a lot of love since we saw the the Nifleheim base footage, but back when the Dawn trailer was shown things were a bit different, and I wanted to talk a bit about that and to play off DrBretto's earlier interesting insights as well. This is going to be a long one so hang in there.

I Don't know where else to put this.
I would love to hear other members opinions on this subject and how we can all truly enjoy Final Fantasy XV for what it is, art created by numerous talented individuals.
I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR THE LENGTH.

So much hate.
I have seen so much Final Fantasy XV hate in the last 24 hours and even more disturbing is that I have seen that hate correlated and cast on actual human beings. These people say that Tabata is a liar and he changed Nomura’s Vision of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. That got me thinking….

If you care, read on…

To anyone who thinks Tabata is fully changing Nomura’s vision. Let me highlight an interesting point.
Has anyone ever really looked at the Final Fantasy XV E3 2013 reveal trailer? If you look at it in a more reminiscent way, behind all its splendor and craziness, it is in essence a goodbye to Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
The whole trailer has dialogue pertaining to the changes and transformation of Versus to XV. Also even more interesting is the aspect that when this trailer was released Nomura was still director of the project and he is now still the current character designer.

For me to fully explain the impact of the E3 2013 trailer I’ll start with the dialogue at the beginning. The trailer opens up with a conversation between Noctis Lucis Caelum and what is perceived to be Stella Nox Fleuret (The now deleted heroin of Final Fantasy Versus XIII). This can be assumed because the dialogue is very similar to the trailer four years prior which depicts their meeting at a peace treaty party.
Stella’s voice rings out across a misty field, “Noctis, you see the light too.” As the prince replies “There are things I just “know” and I have no idea how.“ This dialogue’s purpose is to solidify to those who have followed Versus XIII that it is Noctis and Stella talking.

The visuals as well here are very interesting. The video depicts a young Noctis and surprisingly what seems to be a young Lunafreya, who as we know, now replaces Stella. As the two of them run through a misty field one has to wonder why the trailer has these inconsistencies? Why does the trailer depict Luna at the beginning as well as Stella’s dialogue if Luna replaces Stella’s character?
It gets even more interesting as the dialogue continues
As the scene goes on we still assume Stella is talking. “I can’t stay any longer.” She says.

Noctis replies, "My heart won’t let go.” With Stella following with a determined, “Don’t worry about me, live your own life.”

This conversation can be taken and analyzed numerous ways but it is interesting to wonder if it was made purposefully to foreshadow Luna replacing Stella while Noctis figuratively lives on in the transition to Final Fantasy XV.
Now we come to the next scene of the white robed man and the dialogue he says. “The world we purport to know is ever changing, ending as we speak. So it is and always will be.” It is interesting to see the language used throughout the trailer that highlights change and the end of the old and beginning of the new.

As it transitions into the following scenes we can draw numerous conclusions but not very concrete ones as the scenes that follow are more core story related (I’ll leave those interpretations, if there is any, up to other people.)
When it gets interesting is at the very end during the flashing of characters on the screen. It is important to note that Stella, as Versus XIII fans have known her is shown during the line up. Although, wasn’t Luna just shown during the opening to the trailer?

After the line up ends and the music is about to crescendo we witness Lord Commander Cor Leonis talking to Noctis asking him, “You want the truth?“ Noctis replies with a nonchalant "Why not.” Then Cor finishes with, “It’s complicated.”

This line of dialogue to me stands out as a metaphorical answer from Nomura or Square itself in regards to the long wait fans were burden with for Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Also it could be a metaphorical answer to why it was decided to be turned into Final Fantasy XV.
The dialogue in the next scene during the title change is really self explanatory.

Why am I writing this? The point of all this is, perhaps Nomura was a part of the changes we are seeing currently and maybe it wasn’t all Tabata.

Think about this. Nomura was still on the project when that trailer came out right? Not only that but the trailer was probably put together months before E3 took place in June.
We know that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was changed to FFXV in 2012. Tabata officially stated in 2014 Stella was scrapped…. Or so we think.
My question is, why the dialogue emphasizing change and farwells and why the inconsistencies with Luna being in the trailer as well as Stella? My conclusion and opinion, these changes were put into place at the beginning of the transition with Nomura on board.
Hell he may have well done the character designs for Luna and Regis’ new look that we have seen in the new “Dawn” trailer. We are just now seeing the fruits of all these changes.
Personally I believe Square knows it’s better to ease people in slowly with change than to outright say it’s a different game. There would be backlash like crazy and the game would not get the chance to prove itself. Heck, even 2 years in we are still getting backlash even though Square has done a great job at easing some fears people had.

Really the argument that Tabata is the one who ruins it is logically invalid and biased. Even if this is all conjecture, evidence points towards Nomura being apart of the changes and not Tabata backstabbing him and changing his vision. At the very least they had to have agreed to the changes.

We don’t know, but that’s the point. How can we say Stella is better, Luna is better, or Nomura’s vision is better. I mean game creation is a bunch of people working together and agreeing on what’s best.

Besides, evidence points to Nomura not being kicked off of the project. Evidence points to him being asked to do an even more important project… the Final Fantasy VII remake. Which, by the way, coincides with his departure from FFXV. I’ve seen so much hate on various sites over the past 24 hours based solely on opinion and biased thinking. Why can’t we stop the hate?

Let’s look at this through a new lens. We don’t know what Stella was going to be like 40 hours into Final Fantasy Versus XII and we don’t know what Luna will be like for 40 hours into Final Fantasy XV.

Just because Nomura decided to show Stella with a sword and badass determination early on in Final Fantasy Versus XIII promotion doesn’t mean that we won’t get to see later on in the full game (Or maybe even have in the party) Luna with a sword and badass determination.

In the end strength comes from the heart. Thats a staple of Nomura, if anyone has played Kingdom Hearts they should know this.
To be honest, in the shots we have seen, Luna has a inner determination in her eyes. Her character has yet to show the strength behind it.

Perhaps I am being overly analytical or maybe all the mindless hate has shown me the trends of hate in my life outside of Final Fantasy XV news. In the end it seems as though a lot of people argue semantics and biases that are based only in individual opinion. If that opinion is challenged at all they lash out in hate, for whatever personal reasons.

Im not perfect, I have biases. I may be wrong in this whole freaking post/novel. Although I know one thing, when someone’s opinion becomes illogical and no longer looks at the facts or potentialities like the above statements then that is cause for concern. When opinions turn to hate towards someone they don’t even know. They seem like little children thinking they know how string theory works. In the end they just sound stupid.

This is coming from someone who still struggles with the inability to control things and thus combats his own hate.
The hate, like the stuff some Final Fantasy XV fans are spewing, is just a way to regain control. Cause some people hate change and change is uncontrollable.

Why can’t we all see the positive ramifications of unity. A faith that is without hate.

I really like this post, and I think some of the statements that were made in Various ATR's, especially the one last June, had led people to think that this trailer was no longer representative of the direction of the game. The interesting thing is that even at that time, no one actually involved has said this. Now with Tabata-san rolling the footage for it just a couple days ago I thought it might be a good time to bring up the E3 2013 trailer discussion again.

I'm going to quote some exerpts from a GAF user (now a mod there) named Falk. Those of you who follow the neoGAF XV threads no doubt know who he is, and for those that dont, he is a contract audioguy who is now known and verified to be deeply involved with the project.

Originally posted by Falk June 5th 2015 in reference to the party scene and Stella being cut. Ive bolded the significant parts:

"Versus XIII trailer: Noctis meets Stella at a party in Insomnia, Niflheim attacks. This section was confirmed canned in the ATR

E3 2013 FFXV trailer: Niflheim attacks Accordo, while Noctis is in the city. This is where the Leviathan scene took place. Although not publicly disclosed as to how close the actual game's action sequences etc. will be to the trailer, we have to assume that this scene, or at least sequence of events (Noctis being there during Niflheim attacking) has to be in the game, as it was the first marketing showing of FFXV with its rebranding."

"Alright, I guess now that the thread is sorta winding down instead of going at approximately 5 pages a minute, I'd chip in my own two cents. Without getting too far into things I shouldn't be talking about, do remember that Nomura's style during the mid/late 2000s is to make trailers or video pieces on concepts that are freaking cool, and then integrate them into the game's plot later.

In some cases, like the Secret Movies of Kingdom Hearts, it results in some exceptional scenarios and unbelievable levels of hype. If you're not aware, Another Side, Another Story, KH's secret movie was made prior to fleshing out the story of KH2, and Nojima had to write in the quotes present in the trailer after that fact*. Several key details were changed from that movie to how it was implemented in-game in KH2 and Chain of Memories, e.g. the keyblades involved.

While The Gathering was obviously more fleshed out, even it had some elements changed by the time it was fleshed out into Birth By Sleep, KH2FM's secret movie, e.g. Xehanort's design.

* "Another side, Another story..." was meant as more of a concept trailer, showing whatever ideas Tetsuya Nomura had for a sequel at the time; it was not meant to be taken as an actual part of the storyline for the games. Kazushige Nojima, the scenario writer, explained that, after the story for Kingdom Hearts II was written, he had to go back and find places to put in the seemingly random quotes found in both "Another side, Another story..." and "Another Side, Another Story [deep dive]".

It is entirely possible that key elements of the Versus XIII trailers might have been changed even if the project had remained as Versus XIII. While Nomura and Nojima undoubtedly would probably have weaved everything, from the party invasion to Stella and her exact characterization as it had been presented, it into their overall narrative, the existence of those scenes, as they were, were not yet indicative that an entire story had already been completely set in stone utilizing those scenes.

I think honestly, this is one of the gifts Nomura and Nojima have - being able to write in his ideas into a narrative that doesn't break under its own weight when taken in small slices e.g. Kingdom Hearts. When a slightly different set of people took the helm, the decision to find ways to include these smaller concept pieces into the overall narrative becomes a harder one, because if not done correctly it will be at the expense of the game itself, and a disservice to Nomura.

Having spoken to multiple staff members over the past year, what I can say that when they are following Nomura's original vision as much as possible, it's not simply just PR speak. They -are- doing all they can to respect the world and characters that Nomura created. Aesthetically, it's still a fantasy based on reality. Noctis still is crown prince of a family of sword summoners. The combat still is based on capitalizing on that fact. It's still an action-based open world Final Fantasy. The game still is at its core a road trip story. Nojima's plot is still largely intact.

I will say that when I myself found out about the changes (can't say how or when, for obvious reasons), I was a little disappointed, having been someone who also followed Versus XIII (and Somnus, omg) since the start, but FFXV at this point should be judged on its own merits, based on everything that has been revealed from E3 2013 onwards, and I've definitely taken to the world, characters, and story."

These two are much more recent from January in another thread in response to the assertion that the changes the public has seen to the project means that the game is fundamentally different to Versus:

"Nomura's vision and Tabata's game aren't two mutually exclusive things."

"Ultimately, it's never been publicly revealed how much of the change occurred under Nomura's watch as a result of the transition to a mainline title. It's never been publicly revealed what the discussions between Tabata and Nomura were before the latter was reassigned to other projects within the Square Enix umbrella. Granted, Nomura might or would have handled some things differently had he remained in charge, but that's a scenario that didn't happen, so it doesn't exist for anyone to draw any comparison to.

Again, they aren't mutually exclusive. Different, yes. Mutually exclusive, no.

Now, finally, we have Tabata's own quotes that he made during the stream in regards to the 2013 footage thanks to Rin's translation:
• (While running the E3 2013 trailer) Tabata says SE have been developing XV all this time with the E3 2013 image in mind.

I believe this is indeed the first and only time Tabata himself has commented directly on the Nomura directed E3 2013 trailer without it being some vague statement or deflection. Further, the fact that his words corroborate Falks (from over 9 months ago) me confirms that indeed (character design changes not withstanding) E3 2013 was and is the vision for Final Fantasy XV:

• (While running the Dawn 2.0 teaser) The trailer prepared for the Uncovered event will be a "full spec" trailer with things like story and battle scenes rather than being a teaser like the Dawn ones. Tabata said that during last year's Gamescom and TGS, he prioritized continuing development over revealing footage. He said that making full trailers is costly since taking various parts of development and putting them together are required; the development team also have deadlines to meet at the same time. He also says that he understands fans' request for a full trailer.

(I found this last statement via twitter)--Tabata said he and the dev team know that E32013 still is the most popular trailer for the game and that he and the team intends to and believes that the new Uncovered trailer will match or even surpass it, is all the more reassuring that the intent of these statements is indeed genuine. I can't wait until the event. 4 more days!!!

I'd be interested. Text only, and I will be fixated on the event unspoiled by other people's immediate reactions most likely, but I could be interested in pre and post game opinions, or reading during lulls.
