Console-quality mobile title, Mobius Final Fantasy is out now in Japan for iOS & Android.

Notable staff to work on this new title include:

Not true, confirming that you can indeed play w/o doing anything to your phone (iOS users, not sure about android.)
It's just a matter of changing your app store to the Japanese one, something you can do in Settings.

Square Enix like, never region-locks their games.

EDIT: You can download/install the game currently, but after install you'll be met with the Mobius FF title screen with the release date and time. So the game still technically isn't available to the public yet.

For iOS users who don't know how to change their app store to Japan:
> Settings
> iTunes/App Store
> Apple ID~ View Apple ID (have your password ready)
> Country/Region (change to Japan 日本)
> You need a Japanese postal-code (for selected prefecture) to finalize the change, nothing a google search can't manage.

As I'm not an android user, I cannot speak for you guys, though I'd assume you have to go through a similar process to access the game.
