Yep, this happened.

While it's impossible not to immediately focus on the monetary aspect of the acquisition, Notch's inability to properly manage Minecraft is unfortunate to see. I suppose a brighter end of this is that it parallels Sega's buyout of Atlus, in that MS can't afford to tamper with or alter Minecraft as an intellectual property.

Microsoft is buying Minecraft in the hopes of buying its fans -- but I don't see why you should be loyal to the company that bought the thing you love (that is, I don't feel indebted to Disney for buying Star Wars).
