I'm not sure if this is old news, but Final Fantasy Type-0 has been rated 'Mature', which for me is a good thing. I've been years waiting for a more obscure, grown up and (may I say) daring FF, and looks like Type-0 will be the one.

My question is, do you think XV will receive an 'M' rating as well or will it stay to the traditional 'T' rating? (of the US and the rest of the Americas, I must add --PEGI uses a different nomenclature I understand).

Also, is this the first FF to receive an 'M' rating? I'm not really sure.

Yeah, Type-0 is the first Final Fantasy with an M rating.

Hard to make any substantial guess at the moment. Nothing yet we have seen of FFXV in terms of footage would warrant anything higher than a T rating/16+ rating in PEGI terms. That can easily change though, if a future trailer depicts some truly brutal display of war and bloodshed, or if they go somewhere like Kojima and show with great vividness some horrific themes and imagery, like what I imagine MGSV seeks to do with child soldiers.

I don't know exactly how it's handled in the US but in Germany we have 5 different ratings. 0+, 6+, 12+, 16+ and 18+ and I'm pretty sure XV will get a 16+. I think type-0 HD got an 16+ here too which makes it the second FF title that gets this high rating ( the other one is Dirge of Cerberus FF VII).

Here in NA we've got E (everyone), E10+(10+... obviously), T (essentially 13+), and M (17+). Also, I don't exactly know how it works in other parts of the world, but our ratings are just a suggestion. As far as I'm aware it isn't actually illegal for a minor to buy an M rated game. (I think. Correct me if I'm wrong other Americans.) Certain stores however can request ID for certain games (I think Gamestop does this).

Anyway, I don't think SE would let a mainline game get rated M in NA/18 in Europe. Type-0 getting an M rating was probably partly a marketing thing anyway.

IMO Square Enix is going for a T rating for FFXV. Though they did say that FFXV would be a darker, more mature than the rest of the series, personally, I think they're aiming for a wider audience. I've always thought that Square Enix sets high expected sales in their games. And this is Final Fantasy, their baby, so they would probably have to assume 10 million to be their expected sales target. And to achieve that, they need to lower the rating, if possible.

As for FF Type-0 HD, they're aiming it to the hardcore gamers, and those gamers have already reached an age of at least 18.

Well theres not enought material shown yet about XV to properly give it a rating. Dark and mature is not always related to the level of gore or violence (though they may sometimes overlap), theres more than that to archive maturity.

With Versus XIII, my bets would have probably been that the game would be rated M. XV, not so much. What has been shown so far doesn't warrant anything higher than a T, but who knows.

FF XV would need something like nudity drug alcohol swears etc. blood was shown but not enough for rated M. idk know Type 0 is rated M. its not like GOW. and FF15 doesnt even seem to be as pushy as Infamous and that series is T

Why would you give Versus XIII a higher rating than XV ?
Well, to be fair, one of the first Versus trailers had Noctis impaling a soldier with his sword, blood prominently being shown after that. Also Noctis breaking a soldier's neck with his thighs (so cool! but so violent!). That plus all the talk about how the game couldn't have been made into a mainline FF, the darkness of the story and all that led me to believe the game could have gotten an M rating pretty easily.

It wouldn't need that at all. Throw a very violent scene (or several) and you get a free M rating. I saw some Type 0 vids and frankly, I would have been surprised if it hadn't gotten an M rating.
