Like 3 actual games use Esper one of which is over 25 years ago, the other of which is just a port of an older game which only used it because FF12 and by extension its DS spinoff used it as a callback to FF6s term, any other use is just in random mobile gatcha games, it's nowhere near as widely used a term as Eidolon is. Eidolon started being used with FF9, then multiple new FFs started using it with 13, 13-2, LR, Type-0 as well as bunch of other full spinoff games, and Dissidia 012 primarily uses Eidolon for those called Eidolons and only calls ones that were called Espers as Espers, and even then FF5 and FF7 summons are called Eidolons in 012 too despite not being called that in their own games. GF, Aeon, Avatar and Primals are all only one game specific use, not a recurring use, and between Esper or Eidolon, Eidolon is the most widely used term for what summons are referred to as far more than Esper has been used, it is synonymous with summon itself. If XV summons were called Eidolons then there would be evidence regarding this found in datamine content which has localized things going even back to 2014 script and text entries, yet not any mention of Eidolon while there is for Astral. The fact that the live translator just chose to use Eidolon when live translating is simply because it's a term most synonymous with summons, there's nothing more to it than that.
Even the FF wiki states that Eidolon is the more popular name usage over Esper.

You know I never thought about that, in AKT Regis is telling the story of how Daemons suddenly attacked Insomnia, though since Daemons shouldn't have been able to get inside Insomnia I mostly just chalked that up to Regis just making up the story to get Noctis excited, but what if he was just embelleshing the fact that Ardyn and those he daemonized in Insomnia was the Daemons in his bedtime story, him just mixing fact with fiction? In Comrades Cid and Wheskam also mention having fought an octopus back in the day that got away. The XV devs also confirmed Clarus will be in Ep Ardyn, so I wonder if a younger Cid, Wheskam and even Cor will be too.
It would be great if you got to see other places in Insomnia, like the places we saw in Kingsglaive, like Section D. Working subways and even Caelum Via hotels and resorts. But we know that's not going to happen. I don't even see any cars.

My argument is not that Esper is just as commonly used as Eidolon. My argument is that, given both the relative frequency of Esper and the relative frequency of game-specific summon names, there's worse than 50/50 odds that any randomly-chosen FF game would use the term Eidolon, and therefore it would be highly unprofessional for a translator to choose it as a translation without being instructed to do so. The only appropriate translation for the Japanese phrase being translated is "summon" (or "summoned creature" if they wanted to be more literal instead of using the fandom's common parlance).

Being the most widely used term for summon outside of summon itself does mean it is synonymous with it, the frequency of Eidolon's use is far higher than Esper, especially if you even factor in the amount of people who even played those games which already puts Eidolon's spread ever further than whatever Esper has. If someone says Eidolon they know it means summon, it's a term synonymous with summon and even after XV was out people still call the XV summons as Eidolons because it's a term that is just synonymous with summons. A live translation is not the same thing as actually localizing a game, and using terms not actually present in the game is extremely common and has nothing to do with being unprofessional.

Insomnia looks incredible, and I wouldn't expect anything less from the devs however I wonder how much of it is available too us? I doubt it'll be 1:1 with Shinjuku lol but I am expecting a bigger map than what we had in the Royal Edition. Also, I hope we can explore the city before Ardyn begins his assault even if just for a few minutes, it'd be nice to experience Insomnia while it's actually still vibrant and full of life as opposed to it being void and full of enemies the entire time like at the end of the game.
Also, seeing the city like this makes me want a playable parting ways prologue even more
. And hey I mean the story is already composed, and now the assets are already created.. I'm not saying it would be "easy to do" but it wouldn't be entirely difficult either and it would do so much of a service too the story.
