Two camps of people:

1/ Those who go with the flow and are more likely to enjoy the game because they set realistic standards

2/ Those who have set specific expectations and will end up disappointed.

I'm just happy to have a game to play at all tbh. So first camp for me it is *sits down with the bros at a camp site and enjoys Ignis' cooking*

X-2.5 and Will were on-request from SQEX as they wanted to get the tone dark again. And Nomura had never been a scriptwriter to my knowledge until now, but I can see why he didn't enjoy it. For someone who doesn't like it or isn't a natural at it, writing's not all its cracked up to be.

Oh, and about Nojima, let's not forget one of his more mixed contributions to the series. He created the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos (a fact seemingly conveniently forgotten) and devised the basic scenario for XIII from those concepts that Toriyama and Watanabe later expanded.
I wouldn't exactly call X-2.5 and -Will- dark. -Will- has some potential in that regard (taking the wish Yuna was allowed to make at the end of X-2 and complicating it is probably the most natural way to pull a darker sequel from X-2), but it's also full of unnecessary OCs and ridiculous nonsense like boob size comparisons. X-2.5, on the other hand, is just weird through and through, and its "mature" elements might be edgy, but they're certainly not dark.

On the other hand, I'm not inclined to blame Nojima for XIII being what it was. XIII strikes me as a game that had to change a lot in order to get out the door, with the scenario taking the brunt of that. (If Gran Pulse was always meant to be an effectively human-free world, I'll eat my non-existent hat. =P )

Hell, Nomura even said this back in 2008 regarding Noctis and Stella in the party scene from a translated interview:

View attachment 617

"First time they met each other"

The fact that the little girl/Stella from the E3 2013 trailer confirmed she met Noctis as children completely contradicts that statement, which would mean Nomura had a hand in changes before he left.

I'll also bring up again how Nomura outriht admitted he can't manage projects by himself, he's very fependant with co-directors and places a lot of trust in them.

Yep, that's precisely the whole Stella thing. I wouldn't be susprised if Nomura himself had already planned some or all of the changes made to the character. I mean, it was during 2014 where the whole shift happened, afaik (or even earlier in a more transitional way, but I don't really know).

And indeed: KH3 is proof of that (and that's, obviously, a dearly beloved (sorry) series to him).

BTW, as much as I disliked the game (not at all bad, just not my thing and also has the dubious honor of being the sole face of mainline FFs for almost a decade, which fueled my aversion), I actually enjoyed the whole FNC mythos (not very well implemented in XIII iirc. It's been a while). Same thing with X, I absolutely adore the concept, the world (and overall Okinawan aesthetic) and such. Can't say I'm a big fan of the actual game's plot or characters (especially designs), though.

From what I read I feel like I am going to be highly disappointed with this game. I guess its my own fault cause I expected too much. Yet there were red flags since Tabata took over and the extremely long development time and the scrapping of the versus content. I thought that Tabata wouldn't change Nomura's vision all that much, but he changed it too much in the end. Also thought the world would be a whole lot bigger (One of my biggest gripes because I love exploration in games and wanted to explore more it was one of the biggest selling points to me. Again its my fault for over hyping it. I still think the final game will be enjoyable for me it could even be my goty but it definitely wont be the game I envisioned it being.
You honestly sound like you read and took to heart every human's individual opinions and about them all into one thought. at this rate, your head is going to explode. You need to take a step back and not take this game so seriously.

I take it seriously cause I invested 10 years of my life waiting for it.

Man, I've never splurged on anything gaming related as much as with FFXV.

I intend to fully bow out of the gaming part of my life after getting through FFXV as I won't have time to game almost at all. I'll be down for anything XV related in the near future such as expansion but other than that I won't be investing in games unless if I have a son or daughter at some point xD

I think I'll be bowing out with a bang with FFXV :D

I think it was 2 days ago that I got confirmation that my copy from GAME uk is ready for shipping :D

Deluxe edition from SE store was charged for a couple weeks or so but I don't expect that one to come on time.

I certainly hope this isn't true. Even if it's the most transcendent game ever created, it's still just a game.
I mean it is a game, but its a game ive been talking about and hyping for 10 years. Heck alot of people have been following and talking about this game for a long time and had alot to say (there are 437 pages on this one thread that should tell you something).

I am someone who loved the concept way back when it was announced in 2006.

How someone receives the game depends on their attitude. Time has nothing to do with it.

For example we both knew about it at the same time in 2006 but I'm more laid back and accepting of it and you've seemed to have taken quite a hit :(

If there is one thing that you take away from reading others impressions, it should be this:

Everyone who played it walked saying they absolutely loved it despite its flaws.

That's all you need to know dude :)

Yeah it did hit me hard, but I am glad people are enjoying it. I dont doubt this will be a solid and great game. Only reason why I will be disappointed was that I set my expectations too high for it but that's my own fault.

I've managed to avoid spoilers and I've avoided most of the major media from this game. I feel like I hardly know anything about the game and I love the feeling of truly knowing I will be experiencing this game fresh.

There are a few things id rather have not seen before hand but they are very minor :)

With XIII in couldn't help but eat up all the trailers and screesnhots. And when the game was out in Japan I ended up watching a stream of the first two chapters(wish I didn't) :/
The good thing was that it was all in Japanese so I didn't fully understand the context.
However, all this pre- overexposure to the game did dull my experience with actually playing the game. I even read and watched all the reviews and that made the experience playing the actual game less intriguing.

This time, from what little I've seen and read, I know the game will be great. I don't need anymore. I can experience the rest with controller in hand in just 5 days time :D

tbh, i didn't expect this but recently i don't miss Versus XIII like i used to , and some of you know i worried a lot about this.

i feel that while the story isn't as interesting, there's plenty of Versus XIII on the game already (the setting, characters, osts, lore, the fact you travel by car...), but mainly... the gameplay surpassed my expectations, everything you saw on that first trailer 10 years ago you can DO in-game, i feel like a badass playing with this combat system.

i think what i'm trying to say is that i'm satisfied with the game from what i read and played, and to know this game will be supported with patchs and dlcs means ill play a hell lot of this even after clearing, and spend a lot of time in this world.
