I have read some old interviews about Stella and Luna. And I'm getting confused that Stella has really been removed from the game or not. They said "Stella is gone away and we picked Luna as she is fitter to the role in the story."

And why do they say like that? I mean, it would be better to say like "We changed Stella's name to Luna."

I think Stella and Luna doesn't look really different at all. They have very similiar designs.

If there are some other reasons about saying like that, I can guess that they didn't entirely removed her from the FFXV's world.

And she will really appear at the rumour CGI movie stuff.
No.

Well... Yeah. Luna is just Stella renamed. Unless it's for symbolic purposes, there was really no need to change her name and announce that they changed her story when we didn't know much about her to begin with at the time.

I think there's a reason behind that name change, the main reason was that tabata wanted to make the character as the oracle. Stella's role was summoning multiple weapons like Noctis, while Luna is the Oracle, and she wields the trident. I think Luna's storyline will be as same as stella's, but in a different role (Job switch). If Luna's intentions is as same as Stella's, then i'm fine with it.

Just end with the conclusion that there was barely anything we knew of Stella which didn't fit FFXV's vision (from the dev team) and the redesign to the now Luna holds clear & concise reasons that defines the character for the game. Just give the character a chance before jumping the gun.

End of story. Lock the door, throw away the key. Home run. Bada-bing bada-boom.
Luna is Stella with no plot holes. That's the gist of it.

Still want to know why they felt the need to change her name though. It has to be for a symbolic reason.

A message from Tabata on Square Enix Blog

Happy New Year!

We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016! In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.

I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft.

We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure.

The whole FFXV team appreciates all of the support from each and everyone one of you this past year.
I cannot tell you how much it means to all of us.

We’d like to celebrate a wonderful New Year and as we approach the release of FFXV, I’d like to enjoy that moment with you all.

It will just be like classic FF games where you are gated by story progress and at the end of the game you can explore the whole world more freely based on how Tabata described this. I fully expected this since Versus was announced to be honest, that's just the FF way of doing things. Considering you will have many options of transportation it seems like you will be able to back track to other areas easily in a way that doesn't feel strictly linear. If they ever introduce the airships into the game it will be at end game where you can freely travel the whole map unrestricted from story elements that would normally gate your progression into more difficult areas.

As for TLoU comparison, I honestly rate personally that game a 10/10 in my book, it's one of my favorite games of all time. It's nice to see them make mention of it, as the story telling in TLoU I highly enjoyed, so that to me is a very high praise towards XV's main scenario, I'm looking forward to it.

Sounds like FFXII. Big areas interconnected. As long as traversing through them isn't a pain in the ass like XII, it should be fine.

Walking through Duscae was boring, though.

Yeah, I think it won't be, they'll be much more expansive, plus having the car will help a lot. The world map of FFXII is one of my favorite parts about XII, so this idea carrying over to FFXV is a step in the right direction in my opinion. I was hoping that XIII would do that from XII -> XIII but... yeah... we know how that turned out.
